Differences in '89 5-speed LB8 tranny vs. V8 cars??
I'm sure this has been asked before, so I'll just appologize right here. Anyway, what manual transmission came with the '89 RS with the 2.8L? If it was the T5, is there any difference between it and the T5 that came with the V8 cars? (And specifically, would a V8 bolt right up?) That is my main question--if the tranny works, the rest of the driveline should work with a V8 swap, right? I should be getting a beautiful 89 RS 2.8L 5-speed this weekend. My Formula will have a bud!

there defiently is a difference between the 2.. the v6 tranny is rated for ALOT less torque than the v8 tranny.. i believe that it will bolt up to the v8 w/ a bellhousing from a v8 t5 tho..
simple answer.. will it work.. YES.. should u do it.. NO

i can't verify this but i was told that the input shaft on the v8 camaros was a little bigger than the v6 ones, which would be why it's rated for more torque. again this is something i was told so should probably check it out before you go ahead with it.
The input shafts have different spline counts. If you used the V6 5-speed, you probably would have to use a V6 clutch which is smaller than a V8 clutch.
Also, I think the V6 trans was rated at like 200 lb/ft....but it might be more.
