I've had a problem with the acceleration in my car, in that it just seems to have lost a lot of power since I bought it. Also there will be times that I'm cruising at 65mph or so and have my foot steady on the gas, not floored but holding at the same point and the car will have s slight feel of acceleration as if I was driving against the wind and then not. I changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor and still have the problem. To add to this my gas mileage is about 14mpg city/highway. any suggestions would be great.

 

Dirty fuel injectors??? This happened to me when My injectors became dirty. Some pepole will say not run fuel injector cleaner, becuase it will ruin the injectors. I have been putting a bottle of injector cleaner in my tank ever 3 months sence I have owned the car. I have had good things to say about it. It returns my MPG and zippyness of the car.


Other then that you may want to check your timing.

 

1. your fuel filter might need changing .

2.did you gap your sparkplugs at the correct gap ?

4.are you stalling any when your in traffic ? if so check your vacumn hoses.

5. do you do alot of driving ? I drive on the interstate for an hour 2-4 times a week . My #1 and #3 plugs between the EGR valve burn within about 2 months because of that heat . I ordered some Taylor heat sleeves from Summit . Like $8.00 a piece . I dont know how long these will last , they are starting to show some wear , but its better than changing my boots are plugs all the time .

6.what kinda distributor cap / rotor did you put on ? If you put on an Accel check the cap and the rotor . I got a bad cap and rotor ( the center post on the cap is real loose and the rotor is real loose on the shaft .

7.Injectors could need cleaning . I ruined several of my injectors by putting injector cleaner in them . Becarefull with that stuff !

8.Is your fuelpump working properly ? Check your fuel pressure

 

At first I was having big problems with the power loss and found that my plugs had only been hand tight, but before I did the tune up I had used an injector cleaner. some say it's not good to use, and others say it helps. Is this due to particular brands of cleaners? Also the plugs that I had to special order from accel were not the same lengths *** the ones that were on previously(not stock so the prev owner may have screwed up). Where can I find the stock lengths and does a few inches make a big difference. plug gaps are all correct.

 

The new plugs could nbe the incorect heat range and fouling out. To find the correct type either talk with the manufacture or a parts store can tell you the corect part number.

They say that with the type of injectors we have the if you use injector cleaner you ruin them. It has to do with the type of injector.

 

not really . You just dont want them snaking down and hitting the pavement . No , but seriosly , you dont want them too long b/c they will hit the exhaust manifolds .And you can tell em bye when they do that cus they practically fry . You wanna have you wires long enough not to hit the manifold and the exhaust manifolds .I know when you look in Car Craft Super Chevy you see drag cars with them on the manifolds , I bet their wires dont last as long as our's
