New auto tranny for an 84 L4???

Well.....since I don't see a 4-cyl forum I'll ask here. Would like to switch to an auto tranny for my 84 L4. What's the best one to use? A V-6 tranny? Stop laughing at my 4-cyl. BTW, why does these L4's sound like diesel?

When a gasoline engine begins to sound like a diesel I would begin to worry. *laughs*

As far as transmission, I am quite sure a v-6 auto will bolt up, but I am not 100% sure, so wait for someone else with more knowledge on the subject.

Hmm, I'm gonna give the same answer as Joe, but I'm no expert either I believe I just read in a post a week or two ago that the iron dukes and the V6's both used the same tranny. So we have 2 answers of I'm pretty sure.............can we get a confirmation?
