Trying to upgrade.

I took a trip to the scrap yard. I got the hood latch that I have been needing for a while, but was unable to get the cable out. My cable is chewed up a little. I can get the end of the cable all the way to the firewall, but can't figure out how to get it through the firewall. There seems to be a rubber gasket in the way and I can;t figure out how to get it out. Does any one know???

Also I thought I all most had 2 good scores. First was the pulldown corgo cover (the one the looks like a curtain). I pulled the plastic mounts, but does my car have the spot to screw in the plastic mounts? I don't want to cut a hole in my interior just to find out that I can't put the monts in. So I moved on and found a cargo well cover. But what is the best way to attach it my trunk well? I don't want to drill holes into the gas tank by accident. Fustrated I walk down the row and find an over head console intact, only missing the flash light. I nab it just to find that who ever had owned the car decided to cut wires instead of fixing a short that was easy to find.

So here are my questions in a less jumbled manner.

1.) How do I get the hood latch pull cable out (most important)?

2.) Is it possible to hook up either the pulldown cargo cover, or the cargo well cover?

3.) ware in the hell can I get an over head console that hasn't been fuged up?

Try the hood part only, that's easy decision.
Console?
Good luck keep searching.
Pull down stuff?
EASY go back to the car you removed everything from & make mental note
I recall one cuts holes in side panels.
EASY, remove, lift panels, see if "holes" exist.
THEY MAY!
I'm thinking of hitting yard today.
It's raining best time to look for fiero covers!
Wish they worked on my 85 Blazer!
Brackets attached to covers for linkage.
MAY remove, BUT I want a spare set to experiment first!

You just push the gasket through to the inside of the car. It's part of the cable. By pushing the grommet thru to the inside of the car, you then have to pull the whole hood latch cable out from under your dash. Take a screwdriver to the junkyard car. This is a spot "common" for the buildup of leaves and dirt and other crap- so, most likely, on a junkyard car, that area is rusted pretty badly, and a screwdriver will open that hole up.

I've wanted one for so long... all the ones I've seen have been either torn, or bent in funny designs. Sounds like you need to pull apart the junkyard car to see how it attaches.

Yeah When i get a chance I'm going to take my rear interior plastic out and see if I have the metal mount that the plastic mounts screw into. If I do I'm going to run down to the scrap, only about 4 blocks away, and see if I can score the cover again. There were 2 of them in near perfect condition, but only enough mounts for 1.

I'll try pulling harder to get the cable out. I had all ready unscrewed the lever and it's mount. So most of the work is all ready done.

I checked the back of my trunk area and found out that I wont be able to use the cargo well cover (the hard one), becuase ther are no bolts to hook it up. Oh well I will just have to find a way to make the pull down cover work. If I find an extra one with All of the mounts I will grab one for you Tom, but I may only be able to find part of it.

Thanks for the offer, but with all the stuff I have to do this summer, I'll never get around to it! Let us know how it goes.. and if you can, take pics.. you could probably get a tech article up on it!

ARRRRGGGGG found more bad news....

First I found that I was going after the wrong overhead console. There are 2 different ones. One for the T-Tops and one for the hard tops (Mine). The ones for the Hard tops are even harder to find. Secound I pulled the interior plastic off to find that there are no mounts for the plastics mounts to screw into for the cargo pulldown cover.

Whil I had all of that off I made an interesting discovery. My was hit from the rear at some point. I saw the bondo and broken glass they forgot to clean out. At lest they did a dam good job at fixing it up. If I didn't see the bondo I would have never known!!

I decided to clean, paint, and lube the hood latch before putting it in. Now it matchs the body color and looks way better!!! So at lest that part went well.

This weekend I'm going to pull my Throttle body off and paint it black. I bought it off some guy here, I can't rember his name. It was lightly ported and plosihed, It actually helps when you are at WOT. Which is good enough for the money I paid for it, $40 + shiping. It was painted a greyishg silver that I didn't like.
