Friggin V6!
sure, some of the things below are the basics to get started, with the most noticable difference from exhaust and intake:
1) Home-made Cold Air Intake (stock is really restrictive) 50.00
2) Dynomax Exhaust - 130.00
3) Catco Cat - 70.00ish
4) Underdrive Pulleys - 70.00
5) A good tune-up if you haven't already

When's the last time ''George" has had a tune-up ? Do a search in the search engine for TomP's tuneup and do that if it has not been done in awhile . It's excellent ! ....Just type "tune-up " in the search and Im sure you will find it in there .
I would recommend doing the things Saespingz listed after you give it a good tune-up , that is if it needs one .

George has no tuneup.. i am on the verge of pitching the damned thing out the window b/c it just seems so slow after driving a new corvette! I might do some of them things... minimun wage allows so little these days!
Let's make it simple.
Cash...
How much
Labor, how much TIME you want to put into it and the old engine.
And for what purpose?
Me?
I'd go for a new timing chain
Fresh plugs
Cap and rotor
Plug wires
NO air filters (for testing, only a quick few miles)
IF feels peppier, go get new filters into the budget.
Yeah, the timing chain is MAJOR LABOR.
BUT the best result gained for the dollar investment, also.
Engine have over 75K miles?
You need one.
My "new" 50K 3.4 is getting a new timing chain, before it goes into the Blazer.
I only wish I could install the 3.4 induction/ignition system right now, too.
Emission testing in a few months, I go for the sure thing.
