power steering pump
power steering pump
i got a pretty bad power steering pump leak, i tried steer seal but that didn't work, I guess it's something on the inside, Are they easy to replace?? I 2 options, Get one at the junkyard for 10 dollars or get a Reman. for 40.
Which one should I do, And how do they install??

Funny you should ask that.
WHAT I SUGGEST!
Remove the ENTIRE ASSEMBLY, from pump, on bracket, to the hoses, that end at the steering box.
WHY?
BREAKING LOOSE, that hose from the bottom part of the pump housing is SUCH A BiTCH.
Removing the hoses at the steering box is much easier to attack, in car.
I recently rediscovered this fact as I am swapping my 1995 3.4 into my 1985 S-10 Blazer.
I was in East LA Sat AM, getting power steering work done.
I'm using the 1995 3.4 power steering pump on my 1985 S-10 Blazer.
It's a perfect match (a hose exits "wrong way", into non existant fuel pump area on a 3.4 block).
You?
If you like the yard you deal with, grab theirs (see the car it came from, if ya can, ask).
But, $40 is "cheap" insurance, too.
