Would I be a sellout if I ....
Sold my V6 for enough to buy a better condition (I'm talkin CLEAN & 92K miles) 1990 Formula TBI with a 91/92 nose conversion and also a 88 Formula that runs/drives but was wrecked, BUT has a 350TPI and possibly posi/disk rear and also a spare 91/92 nose and REAR BUMER (for the 1990).
If I did this, would you guys hate me and call me a sellout or still respect me?

No I wouldn't hate you. I would rather have a V8 too!
But if I were ever in Texas and saw a 90 formula with a different nose on it other than the factory one, I would laugh...then I would consider you a *******.
I say if you had a 91-92 formula;spoiler, wheels, decals and bumper, it would be OK, because it would be hard to tell it wasn't a 91-92, but when your mixing body parts that just dont belong, well thats too white trash for me.

Hell no! If that's the car you want get it! We all know you know your stuff, if it's anything us V6'ers know it's not to rag on someone because of a different engine. We get that all the time! Right now if I can find a 91-92 Z28 or a 91-92 Formula or Trans am I would get it. I don't think I will be selling the 6'er though. Probably just let my dad drive it. Good luck with it all if you get your cars. Are you gonna stay as the moderator though?

Well, I don't like the 91/92 fronts, but, yea I would still respect ya.
Off topic, is that your liscense plate in your sig? That is a pretty cool plate, I was thinking of getting personalized plates whenever I get my bird done...............but thats so far in the future I should just stop thinking about it.

Yes you'd be selling out (of your 6v), no we wouldn't hate you (except that guy who never liked you anyway). Yes, we'd still respect you in the morning.

(and yeah i know i'll eat a lot a **** for that comment, so please dont even bother)

I would demand to have the origonal nose put back on, or knock the price down some, those "banshee" style noses are fugly
Atleast you have the availability to slap in te TPI.
Sellout, since I allready have a V8, & 2 V6s, I would have to say............."I recuse myself from this vote"
Been here before
Ok plain and simple, it doesnt really matter what we think does it? It matters what you you think. I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago, simple solution, Keep the 6 and still treat as my baby, cause it is, but at the same time, i picked up an 85 TA in mint condition, because frankly you can NEVER have enough Firebirds. Story about the TA i drove by a dealer here in Northwest Ohio, and i saw the nose sticking out of the line of cars in the back so i check it out, the dealer asks me if im interested in the car, well long story short, the guy was still there trading it in on a 97 TA and the dealer misqouted big time saying they were gonna ask 2gs for it, well next day i go back witht he cash. The car KBB's out at 4000 and is priced at 4250. Sales man comes out looks at me and says, "let me guess you have the 2000 cash dont you" well he has to sell me the car so BAM great deal and i know have a couple of dream cars. can never have to many.
That's cool.
#1. I'm getting the proper 91/92 rear bumper and the decals, but the spoiler's too damn pricy.
#2. The front nose is personally my favorite and the job was actually amazingly done right. Proper headlights/trim bezels/turn signals/and fog lights....someone actually put time into it. But even though I like it...it is a bargaining chip
#3. I think I could probably get the formy for 2K
#4. My mom will be the one driving my V6.
#5. It's clean as ****.

Hehe, I'm not a fan of the 91-92 bumpers either, but if they're painted the same color as the car, might as well stick with them for a while!
If you do it, congrats on the purchase- but you'd better still come in here and (1) keep us updated and (2) still post about V6's! Everyone that leaves and says "I'll still stop in" has lied so far, so, f them, respect-wise.

BTW guys, before I buy the Formy, I'll be driving to his house to slap some cash on his table and see what he says on his L98 Vert. I'd much rather have it.

how fast would your Z go pulling 4675 pounds + driver w/an estimated 2.76 or 3.08 gear?
BTW, it's a 76 hoopty, and all the weight saved by rust holes has been negated by drag
I must ammend my answer to the question, No not a sell out, just a mutation. If going poncho V8, then it's evolution

if you want the formula, go for it. personally I'm a T&A, i mean T/A guy (the 77 and all...). but what ever you do, you gotta post pics of the new ride.
As for the 70's ruining good cars... my 77 T/A, with the same motor that the bonnie has was good for 15's stock. Now that the bonnie is SMOG EXEMPT :lala: the possabilities are endless. who knows, maybe forged pistons, street demon, 150 shot of nitrous, msd ignition. add that up you get a speed boat
it was the manufacurers not using galvanized steel & the imports using it that ruined the 70's cars........lack of quality is in there too

i am a C3 fan myself (if you can't tell, i want a 69 w/ a 427, hence the name) 1970 was the LS-7.......all of which 0 were produced
lets not forget that HP was rated differently too before 1972
b4 72 they used gross ratings
72-present we use net ratings
Actually there was one L-88 in 1966.
Don Yenko raced it.
But, yes...
We can go one forever about the older Vettes.
I know, I drove some of them, "new" about 3-6 years old models, then.
My favorite was a 1969 350-350 HP w/AC.
Engine before the LT-1 came out.
EASY shifting, 70 MPH.
HP was what sold cars,
BUT torque was the magic number.
You couldn't believe how much fun it was to read the new car magazine articles back then.
Cars got sexier looking, more powerful, models wore shorter mini skirts each year!!
I still have my old Hot Rods for the late 60s w/all the car specs in them & drag tests.
One day I may see them again.
Buried from my recent move.
PS Don't argue Corvettes with one that had them since 1971. I got my 1966 in 1972 (cost of $1,750 complete).
Your desired model, is really nice, too. (1969-L88)
But, really, this 1969 350-350hp w/AC 4-Speed, was one sweet ride.
From one that knows TORQUE rules, too!
I hope you attain your Corvette ownership, one day.
I got sick back in 1972 & never recovered.
Again it took me 19 years to have back myCorvette ownership.
Keep trying for yours!
Ask me why the 1974 model year is a great score for inexpensive Corvettes to purchase & own.

i think that answer is kinda obvious
they were smoggers (like ALL mid-late 70's cars) and had little power, thus had a bad rap, unlike say a 63 split window fuelie or a 67 427 convertible
also build quality wasnt that strong
add all these together and you get the result that mid-late 70's vettes are indeed great baragins because you can buy them cheap and their parts are cheaper than most other vettes
they also look cool
but, to me all vettes look cool

A FEDERAL 1974 Corvette with the L-48 & AUTO TH 400 is the LAST CAR TO EVER EXIT DETROIT WITHOUT A SINGLE SMOG PUMP NOR A.I.R. TUBES TO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS.
1973 has smog stuff
1975 has the Cat Convertors & single exhaust & all smog stuff.
The 1974 lowly standard small block has nothing but pure engine.
1974 L-48 stick CA & Fed version smog pump
1974 CA L-48/Auto, Smog pump
1974 454 Smog pump stick & suto.
The camshaft profile was changed from the 1973 L-48 and engine gained 5 HP & lost enough emissions to get way without NEEDING A smog pump.
1974 are lower priced cars (on current Corvette market)
1973-74-75 Corvettes have real Cold Air Induction systems engineered from the factory
1974 are the last Corvete with true dual exhausts
1974 also have 454's! Last year, too!!
1974 have point distributor, electric oil guages and mechanical tachs
1974 Corvette frames include parts from 1963-1980 (1982, actually-81 & 82 different IRS set up, slightly).
You get 4 wheel disc brakes & independent suspension, as you would in a 1969 427!
1975 & above have the Cat convertors, 1974 & below pure exhaust simple power.
You can get into Corvette ownership for less in the 1974 model year cars.
BUY YOUR CORVETTE INTACT COMPLETE ORIGINAL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE.
Or don't buy it.
Know how expensive it is to restore a Corvette?
Ask me, but I'm not done yet.
Only good examples of post 1974 Corvettes
1975 Convertibles (last year)
1977 Last year of the T-Top body style
1978 First year of the reborn Fast Back, the 25th anniversay/Indy Pace Cars
1982 Collectors edition, last year of the Shark style body.

1977 Last year of the T-Top body style
I could have sworn i've seen later years with Tees
but i could be wrong cuase i often amTeal, i was only asking cuase he told me to and i couldn't resist
1977 Last year of the T-Top/swoopy rear window sail panel body style
1978 First year of the reborn Fastback/Fixed Head Coupe (which still incorporated the T-Top feature until the 1984 model year), the 25th anniversay paint design & the Indy Pace Car Package.
These are 2 separate models (base car & Indy Pace car), identified by specific a VIN number Letter. The 25th Anniversay paint design specified by a specific paint code on base model.
Hope that helps your search.
I paid, 1995, $4800 for my 111,000 original mile 1974, with a pristine original interior (very very few minor interior cracks/aging damage) & 99% original drivetrain (with all the "special" 1974 issued Corvette parts-only carb was not the original part), worn suspension & worn brakes.
I found the unmolested, original diamond in the rough.
My car is so original, still.
Early build date (8/23/73), a Friday.
Never in a rear end accident, still has the rear bumper caps dated 8/13 & 8/17 (noticed grease markings as I was rebuild the rear suspension & brakes-to be able to stop!).
I have all paperwork & I've chatted with 3 of the cars previous owners, including the original owner, of Sept 1973 purchase.
I even know the amount of all the previous purchases.
My purchase was the LOWEST!
Iowa keeps great DMV records.
So does Nevada.
Yep, my 1974 Corvette, that now cruises the San Fernando Valley and the Pacific Coast Highway came from Iowa (9 years) & Nevada (about 3).
I know 1974's very well. I ordered the 1974 Corvette for my Dad. I still have that order form, too.
We sold the car for $3,000 MORE than what the car was purchased for (a OPTION SPECIAL ORDERED LOADED Corvette, $6600!!-dealer mark ups cost that much these days we got a whole brand new Corvette!! for that much).
After 3 years of driving & ownership it was traded in on purchase of a new 1978 Caddy Seville.
Get ahold of me, email, if ya want real world purchase tips.
BUT you need to know your budget & your skills & where you will get parts! AND how much you want to budget for fixing up, each component (suspension/brakes/engine-tranny-rear differential/body/interior/electrical/cooling-AC).
Of all Shark years 1974-1976/77 tend to be the lowest priced cars.
Followed by 1979 model year.
I've owned/had Corvettes in family since 1971.
90% were fun stock models (1954 thru 1974 cars). One 1961 was a street/strip type car (very finicky-wasn't a smooth balanced driver-made more noise than easy to go fast in). Eventually sold.
Count now at a 1961, 1965, 1974 (only 3).

The body style of the 1984-1996 Corvette is a BEAUTY!
Reminds me of the timelessness of a Ferrari 308 (Magnum PI).
It's the interiors/dashes of those years I can't stand.
PLUS my 1974 is SO EASY to work on.
All I have is an engine & exhaust, just like on my 1966 Corvette.
That's it.
Nothing else.
BUT
I still want to open my 1974 Corvette hood & see a 1963-65 Corvette FI set up.

Once you are over 25 or married, down it goes.
IF you completely pay for the car, no loan, is it better priced insurance?
$7K a year...
I can do alot for $7K.
Right now I'm having installed a new pool pump ($200-300).
Last week was plumbing at new home ($700)
Tomorrow is tranny pick up, close to a $500 bill.
Next is parts for the Blazer to swap engines....

yeah $7000 is a bit much
i can build a Z28 for less than that...............which is what i am doing
and considering i'm only 18, looks like i have to wait another 7 years before i can even think about buying a corvette again

Purchase what ya want (LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!)
I know in Jersey, you'll find TONS OF THEM!
Especially
Contemporary Corvette!
Bristol PA.
Go there, find the car ya want and work it into shape.
THEN, register as a classic NJ car, for insurance purposes. Have a garage?
Tell Contemporary a guy from California, that vists them at Christmas time, and he visits his Brother down the street, sent ya.
True story, that's me.
Yeah, I go far for Corvette parts for my 1974!
I found four NEW tail lights in their cars in the yard!
$10 each!!
I have LOTS of one year stuff on my 1974.
PLUS, my 1974 is a VERY EARLY production number.
I have documentation of assembly line "fixes" after my car went down the line.
Told ya I'm sick & know this stuff!
I even have my cars birth certificate from the gas tank. That's how my previous history search started.
Call Contemporary Corvette (800-00-367-8388 2705 Old Rogers Road, Bristol PA M-F 8a-6p Sa 8a-3p), they'll do ya great.
Mention me, they'll be pleased. You'll have a very pleasant time visiting their wrecking yard and seeing the HUNDREDS of wrecked Corvettes and several for sale.
BE AWARE OF 80's cars.
Think you have electrical gremilins now:lala:
That's why I went with a 70's.
It's simple car to fix.
Go visit, have a good time & a good education.
Don't cry to much, it does hurt to see all that broken fiberglass.
June 30th 2002 (1953 public introduction date) is the 49th Anniversay of the Corvette.
Wave to ALL the Corvettes that day.
It's a Patriotic Civic Duty act!
Help keep American Muscle Cars Rolling.
Corvette is one of the OLDEST car names on the road, today.
Thunderbird (1955), is a close second.

thanx for the advice karl
i'll have to see how i like my Z28 when i get it finished
i was thinking about getting an older shark style vette and restoring that too
i was also thinking about an 84-87........
i found a few, but being that i buy so much $$ worth of Snap-On and Matco tools every week and dumping money into the Z28, i cant do that right now
next year i MIGHT be in a better position to buy a vette, but if thats the case my parents are going to tell me to buy my own house first
what color is your 74?
4 speed or auto?
L48 or L82?

Currently
FADED Maroon.
Originally Mille Miglia red
Ox Blood Interior (dark red- sick name sounding color)
I will repaint it White.
Majority of family Corvettes were White & Dad had a new White 1974.
For a first car paint job, I do it on a/MY 1974 Corvette.
Again, Base engine (L48-SAME engine as in my 1967 RS/SS 350 Camaro & same code name, too!) 350 with TH 400 automatic.
It's a perfect fun ride in LA traffic.
Currently tops out at 124 MPH shooting for 140.
My top speed is in line with the test date when car new.
Want advice?
BUY THE HOUSE!!!
Use the house equity to buy the Corvette!
CHECK THE FRAME!!!

hehe, yeah, a house...................
my 2nd cousin is the vette guy in our family
his first car was a 1961 283 vette
then he moved up to a Sebring Silver Fuel Injected '63 Split Window
then after various other vettes, he had a 1992 6-speed
(first corvette i ever rode in)
now i believe he has a black 99.......if what my grandmother said holds true
yeah, kinda weird that what i am doing for a living is also my hobby, but i enjoy it
i have a wish list of cars that i want once i get established (mainly vettes&f-bodies, and of course Harleys)
but for now, i need to put the transmission into the Z28 this sunday and start saving my $$ for my very own house because my parents are tired of me getting grease on their carpet
