V6's suck man, No offense to you guys

This is the 3rd mother****en engine in this car, I raced a Z24 Cavalier, I won, I started hearing a knocking noise when I revved it up, So today I took it to a shop they said it's a bearing knock but they don't know which bearing it is, I am tired of this ****.
I beat it one time and the *** damn engine goes!!!!!!!!!!! What are these engines made of, RUBBER? Its a 2.8. When it knocks u can feel a vibration on the floor.

Didn't you get the memo? V6's are only good for 200 miles, tops.

I think the guys that have 100,000-150,000 on their original engine might argue that with you

No joke ! heh , Tom has 233,000 miles on here . It treats you , how you treat it . I only got 170,000 out of mine , yeah I say only . What screwed me was the crappy Fram filter .Plus I did my share of hard take offs . On this new motor , I really take care of it , gosh I cant even remember the last time I took off hard in it .

I agree with Quick6 first off...

Anyway, I have 110,000 on my car and it is still running strong. I am getting a running 3.1 from a friend this summer to work on in my garage. I cant wait.

If you pay 400 goddamn mother****en dollers for an engine you expect it to work, not to die in a month in a half. That was the ONLY time I ever beat it. One time, AND IT DIES! WTF? Now, I am getting a 88 IROC with a 350 in it, No more little V6's

I've got 120K on my 2.8 and I runs pretty good aside from the pretty bad vibration at 2K and up.

These engines are pretty strong but they will fail if you do something stupid to them. In my case the stupid thing was the auto to 5 speed swap. I finally get the MPH-based vibes fixed and this happens. Oh well, its my fault. But now I have more $$ on the Vette where it will pay off a bit more I'm still planning on painting it and then I'm going to beat the living poopie out of it then follow Karl's example and swap in a 3.4

Edit: You paid $400 and expect a bullit-proof engine?!? Ha! The previous owner of my Dad's 86 Vette (see sig) spent over $15k (I have the reciepts) on his 383 and it still only lasted a few years.

$$ does not equal a long life expectancy. Hell, I pay $225 each just for tires on my '90 Vert.

Maybe someone has been using G Od's name around it too much with the wrong lastname .. Maybe if you wanna try giving Go d the right lastname things may work for you .

No pun intended at all but .....
A good engine cost more than that . If I go to K-Mart , and get me some blue light special no name brand speakers , I dont expect them to last that long .

:lala:

Sounds more like the person who did the rebuild or assembly is to blame. All though if you paid $400 for the engine it sounds like it was never rebuilt! A rebuild kit cost a couple of hunder on it's own + the cost of the engine = more then $400.

It's sad to say,but it looks like you got what you payed for. An ify engine at best.

If you try to cut to many corners or get the absolute lowest cost you can you will end up with a "bottom of the stack" engine.

BTW I have a '92 RS 3.1L 5 speed with 192,000 miles on it and in about 3 months it will top 200,000. It runs so strong that I expect other major componets, like ball joint and stuff, to fail before the engine does.

Not really. The previous owner of the 86 Vette (we do too now) ran Mobil 1 15w50 all the time. There seemed to be no ill effects. This car has spent much of its time in the 160+MPH area and survived, at least after the third rebuild.

20-50 is what you need for a hi reving engine like a 2.8 once that sucker get up to temp and you screaming on it , 10-30 is not gonna help.

I run 20-50 in everthing I own. Sure they say you can get some start up wear with thicker oil but I want protection when im shiftin at 6000 and slaming gears, not when im starting the car.

also run a mobil 1 oil filters, them super fine ones. about 10 bucks.

211,500 on my 85 S-10 Blazer 2.8
I killed the 85 Firebird @107K cause the bottom hose let loose
Oh well.
Now I buy low milage 1995 3.4 long blocks (44K@$800 for the Firebird & 50K @$900 for my Blazer), slip them under the hood.
You got what you paid for.
Ask Tom P
He knows what you get for a low priced 2.8.
A 5 minutes warranty.

Quit wasting your $... Save up and buy a V8 car.
Also, maintenence and oil change intervals greatly influence the longevity of your engine. I highly recommend Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Quit beating a dead horse....

my 3.1 camaro has 183,000 miles on the original engine and i beat the **** out of it daily

$400, sounds like a chop shop rebuild................thats where your problem is bro, you need to buy quality

quality usually costs more than $400 for an engine

get a 3.4 crate engine for $1600

thats what i'm gonna do for my 91 V6 when the time comes to send the 3.1 to heaven

My 3.1 spun a bearing at 110k, but I was 1.5 qt's low on oil while I revved the engine to 6 grand and held it all through the gears....yea yea I know I was stupid.

But keep in mind if you beat on any engine enough if wont hold up.
