found a gta

I know this isn't V-6 oriented but my '92 RS is a 6....and I didn't know where else to put this and you V-6 guys never do me wrong......anyway..... I found a seized maroon GTA w/ T-Tops with the gold spoked wheels at the street department of my city. It's been sitting there for like two years. I can't get into it or anything so I need to figure out what year it is and if it has the turbo option and if they even have a turbo option- I heard that they do but wasn't sure. Any way I can do this without being able to look under the hood? I know that's kinda reachin but any help is appreciated.

Thanks

you can look under the hood. climb under it and reach up into the hood area. you should be able to easily pop it from under there.

well the turbo option that i thikn you're talking about is the 89 TTA or Turbo Trans Am....these cars were the 20th aniversary edition trans am and were all white, also they were the indy 500 pace car, so some have the decals others don't. If it isn't white, then it isn't a turbo car. If it's a true GTA with t-tops then it's most likely a 305 possibly with tuned port fuel injection, simply because 350TPI's with t-tops is a rare combo. You can just pull the vin off the vehicle, it's located on the drivers side at the bottom of the windshield, then get on here and use the vin decoder, that'll give you the year it was made, body style (real GTA or fake), assembly plant, engine, restraint system, and something else i think, not to sure what it is. Hope that helps, but if it's maroon, i doubt it's a turbo car, instead just a v8, sorry, but hey, maybe someone had it repainted, and it's a TTA not a GTA . keep the fingers crossed.

if you can get into the car check the RPO codes, if it has the Y84 code its a GTA

and as said ealier, if its not white its not a TTA

check the VIN and you can tell if its a 305 or 350, and just because it has ttops don't automatically assume its a 305

mine started its life as a 350/ttop car

yea, nobody in there right mind would re-paint a TTA. Another tell-tale sign is look at the center pieced of the tail light assembly (you know where you put the key to pop the hatch). There should be a gold bird there, and it should say turbo underneath it. That and the Indy 500 emblems are the first signs (although some cars left the factory w/o the indy 500 emblems because they ran out). There are many others signs too, but those are the most basic.

BTW, i drove a TTA this past sunday...simply unbelievable!! teehee!
