A 2.8/3.1/3.4 will drop right in, same motor mounts, same trans boltpattern; everything. Like Karl would tell ya, you'd use your motor's intake manifold, carb, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, etc.

You'll see a bit of a boost with even an '85-up 2.8; in '85, the 2.8 got a more agressive camshaft and larger-port heads.

Find my topics of carb'd & MPFI swaps.
Those threads give ya 99.9% of ANY answer you may have, UNTIL you PUT BOTH ENGINES SIDE BY SIDE!
I have paid
IN LOS ANGLES
$900 for a LOADED LONG BLOCK w/50K miles on it (95 Camaro)
$800 for pretty decent Loaded Long block 3.4 w/44K miles on it (95 Camaro).
NOW what about you?
Dealer - $1800-2K, 3.4 new, still need those specials injectors that come on 3.4 long blocks & other little things (see thread for details).
IT's a REAL TOUGH CALL FOR YOU!
I DO NOT KNOW YOUR BUDGET
BUT----
A used running LOW MILAGE 3.4 DRESSED is what you seek.
EVEN IF YOU GET A USED DEAD 3.4, the stuff can help ya.
BUT
3.4 heads are BETTER (SPRINGS & LOCKS & RETAINERS are the diff.)
3.4 CAM is better (so much better!)

A 3.4 CAN NOT BE MADE FROM A 2.8/3.1.
3.4 blocks have more meat, you cannot bore out a2.8/3.1 to=3.4.
IF ya wanna, get your information elsewhere.

Currently, I am doing my 3.4 swap into my Blazer.
I am awating prices for parts (gaskets & etc...) I need to do 85 carb'd version swap.
Hope it gives ya guide, for your needs.
Best thoughts!
PS $6 for the GM Performance Parts Book ANY GM Dealer.
Know what you are seeking, see 60* section!

If ya really want a 3.4 block, you will find one.
One person, here, bought his 3.4, thru ebay.
Had it sent from Florida to L.A. LAKERS area.
YOU NEED ONE FROM A FIREBIRD CAMARO, not a FWD version.
Keep searching.
Someone else recently mentioned a rebuilt long block 3.4 from an auto part store.
Keep serching.

i disapear for a week and there are more 3.4 swap stuff goin on.. should have known.. anyways.. like karl said, u can get them from an auto parts store..
Kragen/Checker/Schucks sells them (well kragen in fresno) $1300 used rebuilt longblocks, $900 used rebuilt shortblocks + $150 core charge w/ 90? day warrenty.. (i have a friend that works there and gets a 25% discount )
ask for a 95 Camaro 3.4 engine, dont say anything about swapping it in what model/year u actually have.. the actual company that rebuilds them is on the east coast.. if u do go this route, i highly recommend taking the heads off and checking the quality of the build, ive heard that kragen rebuilds are often not that reliable

KEEP SEARCING
KEEP ASKING
YOU WILL FIND YOUR 3.4 SOLUTION!!
I DO suggest you get ahold of your LOCAL yellow pages and start phoning and phone again.
People are DYING TO TAKE MONEY RIGHT NOW!
Remind them, you want to give it to them for this product, Keep hounding them!
3.4 DO HAVE SPECIAL HEADS
SAME DESIGN
BUT
BETTER VALVE SPRINGS & LOCKS FOR THE VALVES
Got the GM Performance parts book to see the differences and why you need to know what ya buying.
It is your hard earned money.
I always try to buy with knowledge....
