Air Pump?
Air Pump?
That is what it's called, right? Below the alternator on my v6. Anyway, I believe it has a bad bearing in it. Right off idle my engine shutters a tad, the belt moves a little, then runs fine. I did the old screwdriver to the ear trick, and I am pretty sure that is my problem.
Anyway, I know I can figure it out, but anyone ever take one off? What tools do I need? Also, are they the same on a V8 or no? Reason I'm asking is that I am going to an "all you can carry" next weekend and it's on my list. What does something like that cost new?
Thanks in advance!

Unless you need it to pass emission test in your city, just cut the belt. You really dont need it. It also makes a nice mounting spot for another alt. if you have a kicking system.
Go to store are get 91" 6 rib sepintine belt(around $25-30)
Break loose the 3 bolts and unscrew them a little(10MM)
Remove belt(serpintine system)
With belt off the pully it will have no pressure on it. Remove the 3 bolts.
Remove the other 2 bolts holding on the pump above and below the main body(13MM)
Go to my website, http://www.geocities.com/generationx.../3rdgenheaders and take a look at the pirst pic, it shows the new routing needed with the new 91" belt.
You will also have to remove the black "Check Valve" on the tube to the catalatic converter and get a "Cap Bolt" to fit the end of it(the AIR tube)
The A.I.R. Pump DOES have a wire plug attached to it, but it comes out really easy.

How much of a difference in my emissions will taking this off make? Reason I am asking is because I live in PA, and the emission test is a pain in the ***.
Anyone know if they are the same on V8 cars? I still may want to grab one in case I do need it.

what you can do is simply remove the pully. Then when its time for emissions, put the old belt and pully back on. The shaft of the pully will not interfere with the other belt. And when not worring about emissions, you no longer hear the squeal either.
