v6 to v8 insurance question...

i couldnt find this in a search, but i wanted to ask any of you that have done the V6 to V8 swap... or know of anyone on other boards who have done it... how do they pay insurance.. for a V6 or a v8? or i heard it doesnt matter with v6 to v8 it only matters on rs/z28 etc. just wondering... because would u need to have the insurance company do something now that you have a different motor?

i know there was a guy on here who swapped an LG4 into his 80'2 v6 thirden.. but i cant remember his name, havent been reading for a while on here.

thanks a lot

Best bet may be to call a few insurance companies to get a quote. As far as I can remember, they asked me if the car was a Z-28 or some other special model. I said "no" and from the vehicle's VIN they gathered it was a v6. If they ask for the vin let 'em have it cause it'll say v6.

Here's my final opinion -- Be truthful but don't incriminate yourself. If they only ask if it's a Z and what the VIN is tell them. If they ask if there is now a v-8 under the hood (or other modification) tell them too. But let them ask the questions. Nothing worse than getting nabbed for insurance fraud after an accident.

i know im registering the car soon, with the V6 in it... since im young and learning to drive with the V6 so i dont rap it around a tree, but the V8 swap is really interesting to me, a good learning experience and project to me. hehe but if i change it later, am i responsible for calling the insurance company up and telling them what i did? or does that depend on when they ask me if its a V6 or V8, or if they just ask model names...?

I'd say it will depend on what they ask you specifically. You don't have to tell them more than they need to know -- just what they're asking. Kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" thing -- if they don't ask, you don't tell. But if they do -- don't lie
