Window Motor Probs
Window Motor Probs
Hey guys, my driver's side window is dying slowly.....
I have been looking and I found one remanufactured for around $40. Is that a good deal??? It has a 60 day money back warranty and the seller looks like he does pretty good honest business.
Another q. My car is idling funky again. It seems that every once in a while it try's to die. The rpm's go all the way down to 300/200 and then go up again. Confusing because it doesn't do it all the time, just every once in a while. I thought it had something to do with the brakes (vacuum) because sometimes I would hit the brakes and the idle just fluctuates downward...............

Sounds like a good price. I think we paid $60 to JCWhitney for a motor for my dad's GM truck. The motor was even stamped "GM", and looked like the same motors in my car. Beware, the motor's a btch to change. There's quite a few messages up on the body/interior board about it. I've done it, if you have any q's, feel free to ask.

My job was a bit more complicated... my '86 doors were rusted away. My '84 parts car had good doors, but manual windows. The internals of the two years are different, but, all the holes are in the door frame. So I swapped all the internals from the '86 doors into the '84 doors.. took a while... about a day per door. Your job should be somewhat faster. Although, I had the luxury of working with the doors off the car. You'll have to find a helper to hold the window up. You might try using an auto-body suction cup (like what Pep Boys sells in their body section) to keep the window propped up, but I don't recommend it; if the suction cup lets loose, look out!
Maybe using 3 or 4 cups would be better, but a friend would be cheaper.
