engine RPMs climb to 2300 at startup

I have an '87 Camaro RS 2.8L MPFI V6 and have a concern about the engine RPM at startup.

Upon starting the engine, the RPM's climb to ~2300 and remain there for about 2 sec before slowly reducing to ~800 over the next 7 sec. I don’t remember this being normal which is the reason for my concern.

This started happening after I replaced the thermostat. I cleaned various connections, including the throttle body where I removed as much of the black, I take it exhaust, buildup as I could. I also accidentally created a small opening in the plastic vacuum lines that connect on top of the throttle body. I taped up the opening with electrical tape as best I could.

Thanks

Jacob

vacuum leaks willmake ur engine run like total hell. i had a bad vacuum leak a few weex ago, engien wuldnt idle, brakes had no power.all cuz of a small lil piece of plastic.when my intake manifold was leakin,my rpm's did somethin like that to though.

Vaccum is the first place too look.
Some one had a problem like this a while ago. It turned out that there Vaccum line that hooks to the brake booster was broken off or fell off. So I would suggest you look there first.
