Funny, I did a 2.8 for 2.8 swap on an '89 RS, and his car didn't have that timing connector. Good to see your pic, that's exactly where my timing connector is for my '86. His was missing completely! Odd thing is too, he had some strange electrical work done to the car. His VATS was bypassed, but they used a pre-vats steering column, and he had to put the key in, turn it to "run", and push a silver button to start the car.
