Is there an online site for original GM parts.. I was in an accident today that was not my fault, but my:

Nose is toast, my hood is toast and my drivers 1/2 is toast and the driver door grinds open. I am just curious what the parts will run because if a factory hood is expensive enough I would get a bolt on fiber glass cowl instead.... Anyone know of a good cheap bolt on cowl... I will post pics later...

http://www.actionsalvage.com/default.htm They've got a lot of aftermarket stuff, as for original GM parts, you'd probably do best to call your local chevy dealer, and they may have a website, or else they can order the parts for you. But that's gonna be VERY expensive. You're better off going with the aftermarket stuff if you don't want to put on a used part. You may also want to post this in the body forum.

You'll love this, the claims estimator said in a cocky voice your lucky I just don't total it. I am like okay then I will just have to sue her and the insurance company. This has become a nightmare.

I know I need a new Hood, Nose, Right 1/4, Drivers door paint touch up and align, passenger 1/4 touch up. Also I know I need a new head light assembly, head lights and that is not even jumping inside the hood.... Who knows what is bent out of shape under there.

So who thinks they will total it? It is a 1986 SC 2.8 120K, but he put down 187K because the cluster swap says 87K and he is like oh, 187K I said now about 120K...

Though if they fix it my other half said I can repaint the rest of the car

Chances are they'll total it out. My 83 was rear ended by a drunk in a Saturn. All that happened was my impact bar got bent and the urethane bumper cover was ripped. Due to the low book value, I could either have taken 1300 from the ladies insurance and give up the car or take 1100 and keep the car. I took 1100 and was going to do the work myself. But then my wife's car's tranny blew so guess where the 1100 went-- . Oh well, the lord giveth and the lord taketh away (sometimes very quickly)

Best bet is to get the cash and do the work yourself; that might help you if they give you a raw deal like MDv6man got. I have a friend who's into the import scene, his car got hit, and they totalled it- after the money the insurance company gave the bank, he still has four payments to make on it. Is that crappy or what?? I told him he should try to get that money out, but he doesn't want to bother... for me, it'd be more out of principal!!

only because I think I got a sweet deal! . I paid 300 for my 83 POS and put about a grand into it to get it running after the motor swap. The motor was free but got about 400 worth of parts and 500 was spent on a new carb. The interior is still trashed and the gray primered top half of the drivers door clashes with the rest of the worn out black paint. The rawest part of the deal was that my wife's Buick decided it wanted the insurance money my black 83 earned on its own.

have you looked up the bluebook value of your car? www.kbb.com Remember, anything like stereo, new paint, custom work, etc. is usually not remembersable (is that a word ) Anyway, it's like this, the insurance figures that things like an aftermarket stereo can be removed, and doesn't affect the value of the car. Or, assume that you did something like spend $3K on a paintjob. You may not see more than $300 for that, because the insurance doesn't have to remburse you for that, and guess what, they sure as hell aren't gonna do it out of the kindness of their hearts. You can go ahead and try to sue them, but remember, insurance companies have VERY GOOD lawyers, so be aware that when you go to court the odds are not in your favor. I don't mean to be discouraging, but that's the nature of the beast. Of course there is some stuff you can do if they come back with a low number. First off, take your car to the most expensive body shop in town to get the estimate for the damage. Second, insist on only genuine GM parts. If they give you crap about it just say something like "aftermarket parts may diminish the value of my car. you are obligated to repair it to it's original condition." Just be careful that you don't go too high, or else they'll decide that it's just gonna be easier and more cost effective to total your car.

Always, Always save your reciepts for any upgrades to the vehicle. They will help in case of a claim.

ask what the salvage value of the car is. That way, if they do total it, subtract salvaage value from settlement, fix car & use rest of money how you see fit.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I got in one just a couple of months ago. The insurance ccompany was going to total it, but i told them i was doing the work myself and that it had a rebuilt engine and a whole new exhaust and new this and new that. he said that increases the value by a very small percentage. He cut me a deal for 50 bucks less then the cost of what it would have been to total it. i ended up getting 2800. Doing the work myself saved me enough to get the car painted. i found a parts car at a garage that i paid 350 for. Good luck finding parts they are becoming very hard to find. Hope everything works out.

That blue book value of my car is WAY low, I have had offers for twice that.
