Just some thoughts and findings

I read this on a Fiero board, I think both of the engines have been talked about but I want to make sure.

1989 - 3.1L Turbo
During the 1989 model year, Pontiac sold a limited-edition version of the Grand Prix with a McLaren turbocharged 3.1L engine. Only 2000 were made, but in 1990 it became a regular production model. Power output was rated at 205hp.

1991 - 3.4L Twin Dual Cam

There is a variant of the 60-degree V6, introduced in the 1991 Chevy Lumina Z34, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Olds Cutlass Supreme. It is a Dual Overhead Cam version, with aluminum heads, and possibly aluminum block as well. When first introduced, it was rated at 200 or 210 hp, but more recent versions are rated at 215hp. Quite an improvement over the 180hp of the standard iron block and head 3.4L V6. (Although this engine was introduced before the standard 3.4)

What the z24 a rear wheel drive car??
And what is a McLaren tubocharger??
Was that Pontiac front wheel drive??

McLaren is known for making the F1 right? I'd go out on a limb here and guess that McLaren is just the maker of that paticular turbo - like any other turbo cept made by McLaren. I was interested in that engine and posted asking what you guys thought of sticking it in a 1991 firebird. I always thought that a 3.1l mpfi would do fine in a z24 and the 3.1T shoulda been thrown into the firebirds. Turns out it'd be a hell of a bitch getting the exhaust routing to work since ours is a n/s motor and the z24's was e/w. =P

From what I've read that Aluminum Quad six doesn't stay together very long - still if you were building a show car and it was only driven from the trailer to the display - and you wanted something unique.
Which reminds me, the 90 - 93 quadfours are dropping like flys - I saw three come in at the junk yard the other day - when they get so much ware on them they swarm - if you know someone that has one of 'em, they better have 'em checked out.

And... No, Brakes don't give life! That happens in the BACK SEAT! (Someday, I gotta have a LONG talk with that boy... )

I remember reading a headstone in a cemetary when I was a kid that read:

"Here lies Jake, stepped on the gas instead of the brake."

No bullsh*t.

ASC (American Sun Roof Corporation-really made sun roofs for ALL Detroit in the 70's) McLearn was the aftermarket supplier for the finished project (Like SLP, Saleen, etc.).
To put a nail in this discussion tho.
Other day was at yards.
I noticed the early Front Wheel Drives have the First Generation heads like our F Bodies. Up to about 1987 or 1988 car models.
And Fieros have the First design east west 2.8 engine with the F body style heads.
Which is why Fiero valve covers fit our V-6 rides.
BUT the Grand Prix you are talking about, has the Second Generation FWD heads, with a wicked angle to the heads and also for attaching valve covers & intake assembly. That 3.1 Turbo design is a FWD specific set up design, only and only those few ASC McLearn Grand Prix vehicles had them.

Well, hopefully that's not where life starts.
