Clutch fork and release bearing

when i took off old fuct up tranny and moved the clutch fork...which in turn moved release bearing towards pressure plate
the clutch fork and release bearing would on there own spring back to their original position

now in tranny i'm putting in....i do the same thing but the release bearing and fork stay in same position...could move it but doesnt return to original position

if i were to ignore this problem and put it back in would clutch stay down when i push it....

how would i be able to fix this problem??
