Heat Shield

Damn heat shield fell of my cc, fell off and got ran over actually. Will my car be okay without it? Or should i seek out a new one?

And i was wondering if i could disable my Vats easily, to do a test on my starting problems, then re enable it? I am still having that problem. Put the key in, turn it, nothing but a click. Next time i turn it, starts right up. I have replaced starter(with new solenoid),cables going to starter, and my ignition switch(thing i put my key in) has been rebuilt. Any ideas?

There is a tech artical on disabling your VATS.

I'm not sure about the heat shield thing.

I run with the cat shield off too, mine was rattling, so i ripped it off, and its fine to run without it, because there is a factory heatshield on the floor pan already, you'll be fine.

I agree; I think that heat shield was there to prevent fire when parking over leaves or grass, which we shouldn't ever do, anyway...

I ripped my hand open on one of those damn heat shields... when I was doing that 2.8/2.8 swap on my friend's old '89 Camaro. I was loosening a trans-to-engine bolt, pushing on the breaker bar. (My feet were under the front bumper, head by the transmission.) The bolt loosened! My fingers went SMACK right into the cracked/rusted heat sheild of the cat- talk about blood and PAIN... after I cleaned the dirt/rust out of the cuts, I put on a ton of bandaids, and put my Mechanix gloves back on. (oops)

Hehe, thanks! It'd be a better job if I had sprayed some paint or undercoating on them before it rained yesterday; oh well, I'm not that worried about a little more rust

And I wonder about the VATS, because you said you get a "click"... I think if VATS was acting up, you wouldn't get any click.

I have to double check on the click, it may or may not actually happen. I have been driving my ranger lately, getting ready to put the bird up for winter. Maybe the guy who redid my ignition was an idiot
