Fuel filter?
As I was pulling into the drive of my apartment complex today I noticed that my power steering had quit on me. I nailed the breaks has hard as I could to slow down in time to make the turn into the drive. I knew that the engine had quit on me at this time because I had no power breaks either. After just making the turn into the drive I noticed my SES light on, so I stopped the car to attempt to restart it. It wouldn't start after several tries so my girlfriend steered it to a parking spot as I pushed it. I checked for error codes but nothing showed up other than a code 12. I started it agian and noticed that my fuel pump still seemed to be making some noise, and the engine would try starting but couldn't. Could a clogged fuel filter be the problem? I guess that I am going to try replacing that first. If it was the fuel pump should it have gave me an error code?

also check to see if fp is getting power. check/replace: fp relay. oil pressure switch (sends signal to fp relay, fuel filter, fuel pump pressure. basically diagnose all things that are involved in delivering fuel to the car.

I bought a new fuel filter and worked on putting it on the car today. It was on really tight. I managed to get one side off, but I ran into a problem trying to get the other side off. The gas that leaked out of the line I got off made my wrench that I had on the nut to the fuel line slippery. The wrench sliped out of my hand letting the wrench that I had on the fuel filter turn. I ended up bending the fuel line.
Now I have to cut the end of the old fuel line off and put a new piece on the end.

Its the 85 Firebird that I'm having problems with. It seems like the engine is getting spark, but I'm not %100 sure about that. When I managed to get the one side of the fuel filter off, it looked almost like dirty oil coming out of the filter. So even if it isn't the filter it really needs replaced anyway. I tried starting the car up for a second with the once side of the filter still off just to make sure that the fuel pump didn't totally give out on me. It sounded ok and shot out gas, so I assume that the pump is ok. Hopefully I'll get the fueline repair kit tonight and get the fuel filter back on it tonight, assuming that I find a ride to an auto parts store.
