Late V6's got WC T5's?
I posted this in the tranny forum but there isn't much traffic there.
So I went to the junkyard today and found a 2.8 Camaro, model year unknown. Since it was a 2.8 it had to have been from 85-89, BUT the dash had a SECURITY light for VATS leading me to believe it was a 1989 car.
Anyway, it was 1/2 Off Day so I pulled the trans, paid them $55 and brought it home. The trans tag said 1352-177 so I went to www.5speeds.com and it told me the trans was from a 1988 2.8L LB8 V6 Fbody World Class .
This makes no sense. How could an '88 car have a security light and when did V6's get WC trannies????

About your 3.4 what are you doing with it,rebuilding or just trying to free up time to put it in?

I'm rebuilding it. This summer has been busy as hell at work so I haven't had any time to get stuff done. Nor have I had the desire to. It's FINALLY slowing down though.
I just recieved my Master Engine Kit for my 3.4L. It will be going to the machine shop in the next week or 2 and it will be bored .030 over. The motor will be stock except for the cam and piston size.

Okay, I am by no means an expert but I give you the info I know and maybe it will help. I do know in 88 GM upgraded the T-5 to a world class unit so it wouldn't surprise me if V-6's received a better T5 as well. I think mid year 88 was the first year for VATS -- I know it started with GTA's and the next year was available on all F-bodies.
88 seemed to be a "transition year" for a bunch of things (no Z-28, ground FX on sport coupes, 1st full year for the RS), so all of the above could have been part of the transition.
Another thing -- the trans could have been assembled and intended to go in an 88 car but due to the time of assembly, the trans found its way onto an early 89 model.

I'm gonna pull the cover off tomorrow and we'll see if it is, in fact, a WC trans.
