shudder problem

Got a wierd symptom, can't figure out how to get around it. Ok when my fan cuts in I get a shudder then the engine returns to a pretty good idle. Sometimes it does it when I'm just sitting there at a stop light. Sounds like a voltage dip problem but how to get around it. Shudder is best decribed as quick die but picks up real FAST. It appeared now I guess because engine is no longer loaded with the A/C since it's winter now......

By the way Tom I got my Blaster 3 coil all wired up using that adaptor harness for the 6a and it works but I can't figure out where to mount it, it's so tall and has to be mounted upright because it's oil filled. I was thinking right behind the cap on the fire wall but I can't get a drill in there and I'm afraid I might drill into something on the backside of the fire wall. Any ideas.....

Yeah, I was thinking that too, and maybe the alternator could be dying. Did you check voltage at the battery with the car running? (Should be close to 13.8 volts...)

Glad to hear the coil wired up fine, and yeah, they're a bitch to mount!! Maybe you could drill into the passenger side strut tower? I'm not sure what's behind the firewall up that high. You could always make a bracket (I hate making brackets) to hang the coil's bracket, too. Something like an L-shaped thing, hanging off the underside of the cowl, right before the weatherstripping for the back of the hood. The bracket could hang down enough to take the Blaster 3's bracket. Home Depot sells 1/16 inch thick steel, either in strip stock (2 or 3 inches wide) or in sheets, in the hardware aisle. I usually use the 1/8th inch thick steel, and bend it using a BigF'ingHammer and the bench vise.

I made a bracket for my current Blaster SS coil (I think you saw the pic on here, right?) and my old Accel remote super coil. The accel coil went between the top of the alternator and the throttle body; I made a bracket that hung off of the top bolts of the alternator bracket.

Well I just got done putting in a new battery but not becuase of anything going bad. It was one of those AC Delco battery defects that that GM won't say or replace them. The positive terminal leaks right out of the center where the bolt goes in, acid goes everywhere. There are reports that it's happening on new cars, one person has died because the acid leaked on his brake line and his brakes failed. I talked to my buddy at O'Reily and they have had 100 or more batteries returned to them in the past 6 months with the same defect yet GM says it's the customers fault so you only get prorated warrenty on a new battery. F*#kers....

I know the volts are good and strong from the gauge on the dash but I think current production at idle may be down, hell it's so easy to take off I think I'll just have them load test it.

Yeah I'll dream up some type of bracket just like I did when I put my GM blaster on the fender I had to dream up something. LOL it's just so TALL
