2 fast on the gas thump...
anyone else find their right foot is faster than your left?
even when shifting slow I find my self thumping the system with a slopy shift as my right foot gets on the gas faster than I get off the clutch.
not a problem if your going all out but im sure its not good all the time. i have no idea how to get my feet to work together right.
is there a such thing as a shorter throw clutch pedal lever. like 3/4 of stock travel length?

I gotta figure SOMEONE would've invented one by now, Gumby...may be a custom job though.. Also ya gotta figure, I'm sure everyone here can punch their foot down quicker than they can lift their foot up..it's just the way the human body works. Trick is getting both your feet to work together..it's all about timing. I'm still in the process of learning to drive stick..I can drive it now, but I'm not smooth at it...and don't even ask me to race shift.. :P I work the pedals a tad too quick and release the clutch before it's in gear...WHOOPS! All I can say is man...recognize what the problem is and everytime you shift, think about what you're doign and try to keep yourself from doing it.

How long have you been driving the car? I always just get used to the specific car, but driving manual seems natural to me. My 'bird is an auto though. But my daily is an 86 Mazda B2000 manual, and I've owned a manual Geo Metro, manual Escort, manual Isuzu pickup.....
Maybe you can adjust the rod that pushes the slave cylinder so that it disengages the clutch sooner in the pedal travel. That, and practice shifting without using the clutch at all. If you can learn how to get the RPM's right and do that, all of your shifting will be much smoother. Just a suggestion.

I had the car for a long long time, or so it seams , since 99, but only this last year did I have a good clutch. up to 200,400 miles it was still on the original clutch, it was ok cause long as I floated it, she was fine. so I got real use to being slow on the clutch, cause once it started slipping it was all over. and smelly too. I let the clutch go till the tranny went, [3rd gear was noisy] then I re did it all even clutch cylinders and lines.
I am more use to bikes, if my brain uses the same or wrong code, on a bike as fast and you can get off and back on the gas you can just let go of the clutch. but in the car its not like that.
put some greese on my clutch pedal so it slips off. just seams you have to lift your leg/foot too much to get off the sucker.
on a bike you can just let go and snap it shut, in the thirdgen its so long and up in the firewall.
drive my moms 96 escort once in a while with no problems, it has a nice short throw clutch, i do stall it sometime as I forget how fast it come on and my right foot is not on the gas enough.
a escort clutch system would be nice, hmmmm
thirdgen one seams too much like a truck.
its not really my foot but the clutch system, but cause of the clutch system, it hard to keep my foot doing what it should. my natural reflex for it is not working as well as it does on a short throw clutch system.

Yeah, it's hard to get the clutchwork good on one with a lot of pedal travel...you gotta be real precise and a lot quicker on hitting and letting off... I learned on a 4 speed Pinto and that pedal travels a baseball field I swear, and it doesn't grip until way down at the bottom but it releases way high up..it's a pain in the butt...I can't quickshift it at all.. But my friend, it's his car, he can shift it in a split second, like as quick as an auto shifts...it amazes me. He's not even a great driver either... Goes to show....sometimes you just gotta get used to it. Also you don't have to completely depress the clutch and completely release it when you're race shifting, I think a partial depress is enough to grip it...I know I've done it partial before and had no problem whatsoever with it..but I wasn't doing it fast either.
