TTA swap

if i were to find the engine out of a TTA, could i swap it in to my 90 f-bird? would it be a direct fit since its a V6? or would i be better off trying to swap a 5.0 or 5.7

You'd have to have transmission, crossmember, wiring harness, motor mounts, and some other lil goodies.

You MIGHT have to change the front springs, the buick 3.8 probably weighs more than the 3.1, its a pretty beefy block. You also might have to change your tach, My V8 didnt' work which was to be expected but I know someone else that did the swap and a V6 one didn't work either, mabye its because the motor is SFI

The motor is a direct fit, it uses the same holes for the V6 on the crossmember. Now, being that you have a 60* V6 now the 700r4 will not bolt up. You either A)Have to find a 90* 700r4 thats built up pretty well and get the TCI adapater plate -OR- B)Bite the bullet and do the 200-4r swap. Here is where you have a few options. You COULD try to find a TTA crossmember that would allow you to run the stock torque arm for now, or you could just order spohn's torque arm and crossmember package, you'll still either need a TTA driveshaft or have one made up.

It's going to be tough to find an orginal TTA motor, a few of us have been lucky enough to fine one, a GN one will work fine, you'll have to ditch the AC with the GN heads, hell I ditched the AC with the TTA motor :sillylol:

The GN motor is a bit different, the heads are different, which in stock form don't flow as well as the TTA heads, BUT there is more "meat" to the GN heads, you can do a better port job on them. The GN intercooler scoop will also not work from what I'm told, it sits too low for the fbody car, it will scrape. I want to grab a GN scoop so I can look at the differences myself.

If you're really serious about this there are a couple of sites to go to..

turbobuick.com
turbobuicks.com
gnttype.org

Oh yeah, if you get a GN engine you're gonna need to spend the $$ on a TTA wiring harness which is CASHOLA!!!

Also, to add..if you went the GN motor route you could use the GN headers and crossover pipe but you would need a custom downpipe made.
