hey, i have a 5 spd 2.8 86 camaro. i started it up today and it was ran fine so i was heading towards a buddy's place and my car usually jerks a lil to get goin in 2nd but this was really bad..like i thought i was in the wrong gear. so i put it into first and it scared me because i was goin like 20 mph and usually when i put it into first it wants to slow down real quick and jerk me forward but it didnt do anything.. so i stopped and i floored it and all it wanted to do was rev to about 2 grand and then go back to idle and then go back to 2. i shut the car off and it wouldnt start so i had to get it towed..any ideas guys thanx

 

If plugs, wires, cap and rotor are ok, it might be the Ignition module in the distributor.

Mine had the same symptoms and then It would not start at all. Just turned over.

You can have the module checked at Napa or other parts stores.

Cost around $55.00 and is a little tedious to put in but not too difficult.

 

Coil

 

BOTH ANSWERS ARE 100% CORRECT
Sucks.
Coil is easiest to test.
Pull plug wire.
Insert LONG paper Clip
Turn over engine, while HOLDING SPARK PLUG WIRE WITH PLIERS TO GROUND & CREATE SPARK.
IF SPARK IS BLUEISH WHITE you need coil.
If no spark, modular.
Start pulling & grabbing tools. Kinda easy...

PS IF YA SEE SPARK, doesn't mean coil ain't bad.
