I have an 84 with the 2bbl. I honestly and truly hate that carb. It just runs like crap if its cold, compared to my 4bbl 350. It either bogs or dies if i do anything remotely resembling acceleration when cold.

I have an 83 Camaro with the 2.8 2bbl marvel. I drive it daily and rebuilt an early S-10 motor and put it in cause the original motor had a rod knock.

It runs good once it warms up. I nned to check my choke operation as it is taking a bit of cranking to start in the morning.

He got a 750CFM Carb on it!!!!

How does it run?

Did the carb need to be leaned out?

I was thinking of plopping an Edelbrock 1406 on top of one but alot of people said it would be too much carb.

Details please!!!

yea its a 750cfm carb. it always needs tuning to run right. but when its tuned good it runs like a raped ape. i told him to get a smaller 600 or 500cfm. the 4bbl intake works good though. a smaller 500 or 600 cfm carb would work ok. i recomend the edelbrock 4bbl intake though.

i know mine will smoke them off the like for about 15-20 ft when the roads are dry. that is out of a dead idle too. its only a peg leg peel out though. this winter that will change . when the roads are wet my car will spin for like 25-30 ft out of a dead idle. it will spin farther if i hold a brake stand first.

call me picky but its " Power Braking" or a " Burn Out" not brake buring, that sound like and adjustment problem or a camp fire gone wrong.

my friends 82 berlinetta with the 2.8 carbed and the A3 trany with the carb and intake will barley spin them out of the hole but it will do an ok burnout. my other friends 84 maro zf with the carbed 2.8 and 5 speed will spin them out of the hole if you rev it up to about 3000 rpm and dump it.

I have a S-10 Blazer with that set up.
Unlike your F Body I have no computer.
Yes, I live in California & my truck should have it.
I have a federal version 49 state version that I purchased in California, so it's legal this way.
Tips.
MORE EXHAUST!
Biggest hold back is the junction pipe down passenger side engine.
Remove that & you can gain easy 5 HP and free flowing revs!
Next.
Ignition.
BEST COIL PLUG WIRES & DISTRIBUTOR REBUILD YOUCAN AFFORD.
Next Intake.
You have the Hi Po version already, the factory piece.
Why, it flows good & is aluminum for cooler fuel flow. If compared to the Edelbrock pieces, the ONLY DIFFERENCE?
Interchangable tops! Serious, look at pics.
What you lack is more cubes.
Swap in the 3.4 like I have done twice.
Only sure cure.
Your factory carb is rather good, too.
Rebuild it with the throttle shaft fixed, flatten/sand base for better seal. That 390cfm Holley carb is like $600! Intake set up is like $225 or more.
IF ya truly want better, go find a MPFI, then slip in the 3.4, as I have also done.
BEST FOR YOU?
Is still swap in a V-8 & be done with it, make it as smog legal as possible, it's so easy & cheap these days.

Will my 2.8 spin the tires in the dry. Nope. Maybe on sand. It can spin them pretty good in the rain, or if I power brake it. Sometimes it takes it quite a bit to powerbrake. I no longer try to with this car anymore as its my daily driver, and must stay reliable. The firebird on the other hand will burn them all the way through 1st...

Can I spin the tires?

Nope. Never really tried to do it though. I have been able to chirp them on the wet pavement or gravel. Seeing as this is my daily driver, I don't beat on it that much. Otherwise I'd have to share rides to work with the wife and spend more time at work due to her schedule. That or I'd have to drive the GTO daily which
1- is not insured for that purpose and
2- sucks gas like an alcoholic does beer.

So I choose to admit my car is slow, and use it for what it was intended to do -- get me from point A to B in style.

Also, I haven't modded the car aside from installing another 2.8. I had that one rebuilt before putting it in. All of the components still work as the factory intended. My best mod would have been painting the engine orange before installation. I haven't messed with the timing either.
