What mass air flow thing? Shouldn't be any mass air flow sensor at all on your carb'd motor. You have a baro sensor. If the problem's as bad as you say, and you can't find any problem, I'd say to bring it to a mechanic ASAP. If the fuel smell is that bad, you don't want to screw around, know what I mean? Besides the fact your car could blow up and KILL you, just think of how good you'd feel if your car caught fire and burned to nothing. It's a sweet looking ride.

if u can smell gas like that, ur running way too rich (which is doubtful w/ cc carb) or u have a leak somewhere.. have u been getting really crappy gas milage?
to look for leaks, have a friend help u with this.. unplug the plug on the coil.. have a friend crank the engine, no longer then 10-15 secs at a time (ur car should have a mechanical pump, this will allow fuel to flow and no spark).. follow ur fuel lines.. starts as 2 molded steel lines (fuel and fuel return lines) by the driverside.. these go into the fuel pump (on driverside of block).. 1 molded steel line goes to front of block, up, just above driverside valve cover, then a 90 into back of carb (this is most lickely where ull have a leak if u do have one)..
the stock molded steel lines are a b!tch to replace.. smaller then 3/8 and i have no idea what size fitting is on the carb (dont think its a standard size an fitting)..
if this is no help, take the car to a mechanic.. loose fuel anywhere near the engine is very dangerous

check your main butterfly shaft on your carb, take air cleaner off and pump the gas by hand and see if you see gas leak out around the shaft. with car off and or running/ both.
shaft leaking is a big thing on stock carbs. Just takes a half a day to rebuild it and put in new shaft bushing.
also check your accelator pump, they can wear out and leak when you hit the gas.
how much gas did you have in your car??? you smelling this only when you have a half tank or more??? big problem with most cars as no one ever fills the tank past 5-10 bucks wroth, unless gas is super cheap.

Where specifically is the smell coming from, and how strong is it? If it's carb you're going to smell gas no matter what generally because the carb is sort of open...the fumes go out..get in the air filter..stink the whole assembly up.
