My best JunkYard find? It would have to be...

A while back someone ask what UR best J/Y find was; Well, mine to date would have to be this here Edelbrock after market manifold (w/ the 4 barrel top) fer $50 bucks Amer.

No I’m not going to use the 4 barrel – I’ll order the 2 Barrel top – But here is what it would look like w/ a Quadrajet Commode on top (note: the Quad didn’t ‘fit’ properly)
I see serious hood clearance issues here.
Also since the top is basically just a box with flanges – I could see building my own top for a custom carb set up.

Awsome.
I would rate this as not only your best junk yard find, but probably one of the rarest junk yard finds.
The odds of finding an edlebrock aftermarket manifold is pretty slim.

Naaaw, that large a carb is just over-kill, dumping a lot of raw gas down its throat isn’t gona make it run faster; besides I'm actually trying to improve gas milage by letting the eng. breath better. There is however, a duo-jet that is really just the front 2 barrels of a quadra-jet or other good 2brl carbs. Besides look how tall that thing is – I had to make a custom air cleaner just to clear with the stock manifold. You could cut a hole in the hood & add a scoop – but I like the hood the way it is.
However look at the base – it looks like it would be “easy”(dangerous word) to make a custom top and bolt it on – you could theoretically even use a throttle body. I plan on making a custom setup and running 6 side-draft carburetors off a Honda GoldWing.

Look at the ports, notice the ones on the left are bigger than the ones on the right!!??
I e-mailed Edelbrock & they said “This was done to give the engines a broader torque area.” So …

Any aftermarket performance part for a 2.8l is a good find in my book, especially and Edelbrock intake.

yep when I removed my plenium, [standing in fornt of the car] the left side was a tad smaller than the right. but it was cause of the gaskets, on the left they hang out and block the port a bit 1/8-1/4 new gaskets are the same. But I cut them so it was even flow on both sides.

Your right, it looks like a blower would sit right up there!
Pontiac built a factory super-charged Grand Prix (92?) -crossways engine but a V6 - I know becouse there is one at the local mechanics, been sitting there for a month, I suspect they can't find the parts for it. But yea, that blower would prob. work - all ya need is lots of $$$$.
And Edelbrock still sells the manifold.(last time I checked)

Ghostrider, you need to hook a man up with a part # or a website. I have been trying to fig out how to stick a super pooper on this engine.

Dale:
I actually posted this a long time ago, but it was kinda obscure, so here it is again- (and check around, if you find any AfterMarket stuff it will most likely be for the trucks)

"- I checked Truckoutfitters sight & they show an Edelbrock manifold for a 2.8L. 60deg. V6. Great! But the picture they show looks wrong.(the intake on the 2.8 fits UNDER the valve covers) So I don't know if they just posted the wrong picture or what.
EDELBROCK No.3785
Chevy Manifold - 2.8L V6 Performer 2V 60deg. V6 Base"

(also check Edelbrock's websight - I think they sell the tops & bottoms seprate too.)

No holes for the EGR Valve - I think I see a place where one could go - but you'd have to fab one - And this thing ain't gon'a pass no smog test - California? they'd shoot you at the border.

Thanks!!!

EGR, whats that???

Cali?? Long way from their.

I look at the base as a potential supercharger project

LATE BRAKING NEWS!

From the GM Performance Parts Catalog :
page 143 -

"14044991 - Intake Manifold
This two-barrel aluminum intake manifold is used on rear-wheel-drive V6/60* Chevrolets
Technical Note: Manifold can be modified to mount a two-barrel Holley carburetor for off-highway applications."

There you have it, you now know as much about this GM manifold as I do.
Got my book at Bale Chevy, S. University - the Rock. (thanks KID85) The parts people there are not helpful or friendly!

Dale:
I don't live in the Rock, but I hang out there when I'm in town. I'm a professional driver (mostly big trucks but I have delivered cars & vans & school buses) so I'm gone a lot.

My bird is sitting with the engine pulled, the one in the pix is the one I'm thinking about building to go back in it - if I don't find something else.

Good to know someone spent some spare change wisely to learn more options for the 60* engine family.
That GM publication is a good source of information.
