After weeks of fighting with the 2SE Carb, I decided that I’d worry about it later, so I put a manual choke on it – tuned it best I could and let it go. I’ll work on it later when the weather is better.
I picked up the Man-Choke kit from the HELP parts board at my local auto parts, fer $15 or so. The only problem I ran into was the little black cap that replaces the Electric Choke was too tall – it wouldn’t let the rod go through and engage the choke rod. Sooo… what I did was cut a slice out of the middle, then epoxy the top & bottom together. Simple stuff – the only thing you have to worry about is making sure that it is all square.
My only complaint about this lash-up is that the control **** is very sensitive – a tiny movement can change the choke a lot. I left the vacuum pull-off hooked up so as soon as the engine starts I let go of the **** & the vacuum sets it to ¾ choke. I could probably adjust this for better performance.
Low Tech ? You Betcha!

Would you post a pic of the emission connections in front of your carb, Please?
I have to hook up my stuff on my 1985 S-10 Blazer 3.4 swap job soon for smog testing. Your pic would be very good reference. I have to hook up lines off of the carb to those on intake connections.
I have to "Fake" my choke hook up.
My truck starts instantly without a choke hook up.
I just rebuilt carb, that choke housing, I need to eventually reassemble. By time I smog truck, it will be warmed anyway. Nver smog test without the engine warmed up.
Great job on your fix!
Thanks!

looks like a vacuum choke, from say, a 400 poncho would have worked w/o operating on the origonal choke housing. they're flat, not "bubbled" out like yours.
KED85,
I'd be glad to shoot you a pix of the front of the Carb - but I'm afraid it wont do you any good - its all plugged off. The former owner pretty much trashed all that - the one hose that you see comming off the front goes to one of the vacuum pull offs, everything else is pretty much plugged off. Which is part of the problem I'm having with the carb - its just not designed to work that way. I've got some info I'm gona post from the G.M. Shop Manual - I'll prob. post it in the Carburetor board - let those guys earn their keep. But right now, I've hurt my back at work & have pretty much been flat on my back - so working on it is a painful experience. As far as Smog Legal goes, I feel for you but they'd shoot me at the border.
