From a previous post, I learned that the ticking is either from my rocker arms are loose or there is gunk on my valvetrain. Well, I've been pouring bottles of that oil detergent in my car. Ticking has lessened, but it's still there.
Suggestions ranged from pulling the valve covers to putting in tranny fluid in the crankcase.
Would replacing my 4.5 qts of Maxlife with 3.5 qts of Maxlife and 1 bottle of tranny fluid be worth it? Should I step up to a 20w-50 weight from 10w-30? Or is it too thick for this nice 75 degree weather we're having here in socal?

If u do that you may encounter lots of oil leaks since the gunk in your enigne is probly helping your car not leak oil. The tranny fluid will get rid of the gunk. I do have a bottle of 5 minute engine flush if you want it.

How many miles, and have the valve covers ever been pulled??
If its high miles, I would say that the rockers do need to be adjusted.
As for cleaning out oil deposits, I have heard that deisel fuel works too mixed with oil.
What weight oil are you running?? Possibly go to thinner.
Plenty of oil pressure??

I usually do that 5 minutes flush once a year, or every 2 or 3 oil changes. When I bought the car it had a very slight tick in it. pulled the covers, rockers were OK, adjusted OK, but still ticked. I started running full synthetic and has completely gone for 3+ years now.
I also change my oil maybe 3 times a year(FULL SYNTHETIC ALLOWS THIS), about every 6-7K miles. Last time I worked on the intake I popped the valve covers to look at the rockers. To my somewhat surprise, they were cleaner then when I bought the car!

I run semi syn 20-50 all year round in everything I own. bird, wagon, bike, dirt bike, lawn mower.
If I could afford it I would run 0-50
how could 20-50 ever be too thick??? only if you in sebzero conditions then again I would be using 0-50.
now if your really having problems with a knock they will say to move to a straight weight oil. 30 to 50, friend had a iron duke aro and he was able to drive it another month or so using straight weight oil, till the motor blew 4 good.
think he was paying that car off for 3 years, only drove it about 6-8 months.

Where do you live in San fernando. I live in the valley(Winnetka to be exact) and have done enough engine work involving pulling the valve covers that I can do it in less than 4 hours now. If it comes down to this let me know.
Previous oil changes were Mobil Semi-synthetic, 10w-30, this oil change, I ran maxlife 10w-30.
I'm having a dilemma with a catalytic converter right now, and Karl knows about it.
Anyone had experience with Maremont (Arvin) Catalytic converters?

Give a shout!
Besides, what was stated (oils & weights & YOU NEVER MENTIONED YOU USE SYNTHEICS) and I stated about adding one quart of "thick" oil, will work perfect.
Won't they take back item? BSBSBSBSBSBS!
