Well the "Berlinetta" designation actually started in the 2nd half of the second gens. I think it was 1976 or 78. The last year for the berlinetta was 1986. 1985 and 86 were the only years they were fuel injected. The V6 Berlinetta was the only way you could get fuel injection. If you wanted carb, v-6 from 82-84 or V8 through 1986 were your options (not including second gens). If you get a Berly w/a V6 the 2.8 is the only motor (again, not including second gens). 1984 through 1986 was the only years the digital dash was offered. Usually the Berlinettas and the Base Camaros have the same price tag which is less than the Z-28's or IROCs. Keep in mind that Berlinetta specific parts are harder to come by and the digital dash was not the trademark piece for durability (many don't work anymore).
thank u for the only reply...u helped me alot with my car search...i guess imma go with the regular v6 camaro because i just wanna turn it into a monster and not have to worry about the harder to find berly parts and that stupid digi dash...now i can spend my tax returns on my car!

Berly's are too hard to find...not to mention, honestly, that digital dash is freakin ugly. Maybe it's just my prejudice to digital dashes in general, but...ugh. I need my gauges...can't stand just digits. And the tachs..disgustingly imprecise and hard to read at a rapid glance. By the way, MD...Berlinettas came available with a 2.5 TBI (Iron Duke) also, didn't they?

LOL, theres a berlienetta down the road with t's and lg4. The body hasnt been taken care of,the paint hasnt see a good day in years, the rear quarters have sever rust damage, the bumpers are cracked, the int looks like it has been caught on fire before, and theres no headliner. You wont believe how much they want for it.

I want a t'top camaro so freakin bad. Oh well. Oh yeah I forgot to mention I did drive it. Its in patheatic shape. I think the motor and tranny are gasping their last breaths.
oh well the search continues for a t'top IROC then.

Reminds me of the guy who wants $7000 here for a 66 Mustang covered with replacement parts from 65's and 67's, rust everywhere with horrible bondo jobs, non-matching rims all around, a ripped up interior, a trashed 289 motor, a rinky dink 3 speed automatic...only thing it has is exhaust, in which case....and I'M NOT KIDDING HERE...the mufflers have been welded, via a connection piece, up to traction bars on both sides..... Ugliest piece of crap I've ever seen..the guy's like "Yeah I'm only asking $7000 cause of the interior...if it was nice I'd ask for $12000 or so". Yes, that's what he actually said. *** people are dumb@sses...

The "base" Berlinetta was always price just a few hundred dollars under the cost of a Z28. ( Keep in mind that the "base" Berlinetta was a V6 and the "base" Z28 was a V8 !!! )
In 1984 the Berlinetta was redesigned and the "base" price exceeded the Z28,.......... in 85' & 86' the V6 Berlinetta was priced the same as a base Z28 from the factory. .
In 82 to 84 the V6 was equipped with a carb and the engine code was LC1.
In 85 to 86 the Multi-port fuel injection was offered as the LB8 option code.
ALL V8's were equipped was a carb and the ONLY year the V8 was offered with a Manual tranny was 83. (The V6 came with the Berlinetta as "standard" equipment.)
Buy the Berlinetta,.... & look for a V8 !!! Most of the V8's I have parted out were equiped with Rear Disk Brake POSI's !!

I hear you about the digital dash... I have an '84 berlinetta here and had to replace it. Has anyone witht the early 2.8 had problems with pistons separating from the wrist pin?

what year did berlinetta come in and go out?

I believe the only problem with the early 82-84 engines, as far as internals, was the crank. I think the connecting rods and pistons are the same as for 85-88. '89 (or was it '88?) started the forged pistons.
