Where to buy engines?
Where to buy engines?
ok, can anyone tell me the best place to buy used/rebuilt gm engines for cheap. someone here along time ago told me a website that was great but now I can't find it. I think it was tcreations.com or something like that. But can anyone help me out, my camaro hasn't been running since november...
For me in Los Angeles market, it's easy
I phone up my personal wrecking yard phone book contacts.
For you in south.
What ya want an upgrade to 3.4 power & the swap involved?
Best sources are the phone book, swap meets, asking others in the know. INSURANCE CO. wrecking yard connections for late model rides also is good score.
I paid $800 & $900 for my 3.4 powered mills.
Worth it, too.
Others as low as $210, average seems to be $500.
NOW the 3.4 mill is a RWD standard engine on the 1993-1995 F body cars only.
Also in 1995, the 3.8 became standard V-6 mill.
It's different and "won't work" as easy as a 3.4 swap upgrade. To see full details on the 3.4 mill go to ANY GM DEALER and ask for GM Performance Parts catalog.
MEASLY $6.95 now.
RESEARCH & seek the alternatives, you'll be pleased.
Good hunting.

yeah I should have specified, but I am looking to find a better condition 2.8L for an 85, I know the HP sucks, but I don't really feel it would be worth it to upgrade to a 3.4L. I just want to swap exactly what's in there for the exact same. Keep hassle and money to a minimum.... If I was going for a hot rod I would definitely just buy a z-28 and mess with that instead of trying to convert my v-6. I also have a 79 Mark V that I am streetrodding up...so. The camaro is supposed to be my daily driver
May I help ya this way.
The stuff for swapping a 2.8/3.1/3.4 are virtually identical.
The cost is identical (it takes money)
SEARCH to score a 3.4 mill. It's only to your advantage for the effort ya put out.
That's why I coach anyone to do a 3.4 swap.
It's the same cost, same effort, better results.
Don't discount a 3.4 swap.
DO what ever ya can to score good used 3.4 mill from a 1993-95 FBody.
Worth it?
I wouldn't suggest ya waste the time otherwise.
I've done it twice, as it's the most cost effective move I could make for the effort & dollars invested.
Good thoughts.

how far are you willing to travel to get that engine? I was the one to get the 3.4 for $210 (and it runs), but did a 12 hr sight seeing road trip to get it.

I payed 700 for the engine, and 2xx to ship half way accross this country because I was unable to obtain a engine locally that came with everything I needed (wireharness, ecm, accesorys) for the "odd" swap I am doing.

You can check out Jasper.com they sell all sorts of engines. If you have a Jasper dealer in your area you can ask them about prices. The one dealer I talked to said to take out my 2.8 and put in the exact same one it would be a little over $1000 just in labor to install it not including the engine cost. You can try www.sdpc2000.com they are in Texas. They sell GMGoodwrench engines and all GM Performance engines.
