Well i finely have it out
I hope this is better i do try to spell better just takes time if i messed up let me know lol :-)
Well i finely have the car out of school and in to a shop where I can tare every thing apart and look at every thing. We found out that the ignition cap had been semi melted and real rusty. We changed that and then found a hose that was electrical taped a long time before I had the car, we fixed that.
We also found a bad donut on the exhaust on the right side. I don't have the $$ to fix that yet, found out that it might be also from a bad o2 sensor, I have that ill be replacing that tomorrow in shop class. We also reset the computer so i had to retrain that!
For changing and price on the right exhaust donut, if anny one has done this or knows what I need to do it, or well how to do it. Im sure it's common sense. But how much dose it cost if anny one knows and how do i do it.
(i cant beleave it was that easy
lol)

the donut cost only $5. They go by the name of exhaust flange at the auto store. Really easy to put in. You losen the 2 nuts connecting the y pipe to the exhaust manifold. You will probally have to do it from underneath the car with a pretty long extension. Once its loosened you just slip the new one between the pipes and tighten up.

I dono if i get this right both of my exhuast flange's or what ever u called them i have 2 unlike what i think u are talking about as 1 right at the Y pipe. Would i just losent that and take the Y off then losen that extra lil bit of pipe and take that off and replace it. it look's like that's all but i was just wondering if there was more.
P.S. sorry i dident use spell check i haf to go to bed so i haf to type fast thanks bye

Try to use tools with 1/2" drive when loosening those flange bolts. 3/8" drive extensions usually "twist" up when you apply a lot of force to the ratchet handle- they absorb the torque that should be going to the socket. (Found that out when I did my tranny swap; I couldn't break those bolts free for the life of me. Broke one free, and thought I snapped the extension! Dad suggested I use the 1/2" drive stuff, but we didn't have a very long 1/2" extension, only a 6" sucker. He gave me a lift to Sears, I bought an 18" 1/2" drive extension and an 18mm 1/2" drive socket; came back home, broke the other 6 bolts free in 10 minutes.)
Also, when the engine's cool (like, before you go to bed), start soaking them every night with a penetrant like Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster or etc. (WD40 is a lubricant, not a penetrant, by the way.) Be careful, don't spray them on a hot exhaust- they're flammable, and you could set your car on fire. It might even catch fire after you close the hood and go back inside the house!
Remember that the flange bolt is METRIC. Don't use an SAE socket (SAE=standard=3/8",1/2",9/16",etc) on the nut or you'll strip it. Also, try to use a 6-point socket instead of a 12 point. 90% of my sockets are 6 point- they apply more strength to the nut/bolt, and reduce the chance of stripping the nut/bolt. I think the flange bolts are 14mm... anybody remember?

Well, I finally have the car out of school and into a shop where I can tear everything apart and look at it. We found out that the ignition cap had been semi-melted and real rusty. We changed that and then found a hose that was electircal taped a long time before I had the car. We fixed that.

Not to bash but how old are you? And where do you go to school. Its real hard to understand what you are saying sometimes. Just slow down some and proof read everything before you submit your post. Once again not to flame you or put you down.
Now onto the y-pipe subject, as far as I know there should be a donut inbetween the y-pipe and the cataylic converter.

Ovrclck, thanks for trying.. but.. I still can't understand that second post, even after you tried to clean it up... anyone else want to take a crack at translaing it? I mean, I'd love to try to help here, but I honestly can't even decipher Cammy's posts well enough to figure out what he's talking about.

I think what he meant was:
I have 1 good donut on each exhaust manifold to y-pipe connection but the donut on the end of the y-pipe that connects to the catalytic converter is bad. Do I just have to loosen the y-pipe where it meets the catalytic converter and slide it off and put a new donut in? Or do I have to do more than that?

when I tore out my exhaust, or what was left of it, there wasn't a gasket going to the cat, it was just slip-fit connected and clamped.

When I did the exhaust on my 85, rather than buy a new cat I slipped a donut in there as the ball flange was rotted out. I ended up replacing it anyway.
