exhaust questions

I have a 2-chamber Flowmaster. But I was thinking about replacing the Flowmaster with the Hooker Maximum Flow muffler.

I've heard that backpressure is good for the car. But, I also heard that backpressure is bad for the car.

All I'm looking for is more power and torque.

Any opinions/comments/suggestions appreciated.

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
engines are tuned one of 2 ways.......with an emphasis on torque or on horsepower

for all intents and purposes, torque is the force that makes the car move

horsepower is how quickly the torque multiplies

backpressure in the exhaust is going to emphasize low end torque over horsepower

no backpressure is going to give you more top end (emphasis on top end horsepower)

these V6's arent race engines, so your not going to need more top end (what very little you will gain on top end)

street cars are usually tuned for low end torque

but a free flowing exhaust promotes better efficiency, and thus slightly better gas mileage

kind of a double edged sword

Maaaan, that's deep. :hail:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I wasn't totally sure.

I did notice hp, tq, and mpg increase with the flowmaster over stock though. And i love the flowmaster sound.

Recently i removed my flowmaster cat-back system and drove the car around. It was LOUD, but I didn't notice a whole lot of difference...maybe slightly.

Thanks.

I don't know much about the Hooker Maximum Flow muffler, but my 'bird had a 2.5" Hooker Aerochamber setup on it. I have an MP3 of it if you'd like to hear it. I will have to email it to you.
