Lowering spring and Tire Width

Please help,

I am a Chinese in Taiwan, there is not much people know about the Firebird here, they stop import the Pontiac since 1995 and the last firebird is 1991...

1. Can I use lowering spring on my stock shock?? will it kill my shock, I want to low down my car but can't afford the whole kit.

2. What is the maximal width of the 17' tire for 3rd Firebird, 235, 255 or 275/??/17.......

How about the 18' ???

Thank you for your help

Joe

I would guess that 255 is about as wide as you can go on a 17 inch rim without hitting, but it depends on the offset of the rim and the series of the tire (40, 35, etc...) Try to keep your overall tire diameter the same, so your speedometer will be correct.

The lowering springs will not mess up your shocks if you are only going to lower it 1 or 2 inches, from what I have heard. RedRaif probably knows as much about it as anyone, and she has lowered her car using lowering springs that she cut. The springs were for a V8, and she cut a coil off or something like that to get the ride height right on the V6 car.

You might want to ask this question on the suspension/handling forum as well.
