EGR delete info ?
EGR delete info ?
the EGR valve on my car is leaking and dont have the money right now to get a new one. ( turn 16 in 28 days and im scraping for money just to get it done in time.) but i have read a little about people removing there EGR valve and making block off plates. and rerouting the wires to certian points to trick the computer into thinking its still there. can anyone tell me what wires need to go where to get the ECM to think its still there? also does anyone have pictures of the blockoff plates they made when they took the EGR off? and as far as i have read its just smog equipment that isnt realy needed. thanks in advance.

EGR valves cant be too much. have you checked at a junk yard for a used one just to get you by for now? its just my opinion (and i havent heard about tricking the ECM), but ive never heard anyone benefit from blocking it off. if you go to a junk yard, it cant be more than a few bucks. id recommend doing that, it will get you by long enough to pick one up later on. thats what id probably do.
oh by the way, happy early b-day man. 16 seems so long ago, lol

It's a 3.1 - Digital EGR = $$
To get rid of the EGR completely, you need to remove it, and have a chip burned to set the EGR engage to like 255 degrees, in order for the computer to never turn it on.
It's not a wire the ECM looks for, or a voltage, but a combination of engine speed change, fuel reqs, and such, plus O2 readings to determine if the EGR is working or not... well, the digital one might be different, but that's my understanding for the normal setups.

Well mine is the 2.8 clunky style. It kept leaking at teh exhaust manifold connection, then it would code. We swapped it out and still had a problem. So we blocked it off. Benifit, no more codes or exhaust leaks...and the car still passes emissions. We made the bloack off plate the same shape as the normal gasket, but without the hole. Well it still developed an exhaust leak, so we got a engine block plug and plugged the hole in the manifold, then put on the block off plate. Now for the visual inspection I still left the EGR on the car with all the vacuum lines and wires connected. Don't know if it will work on a digital EGR though...
I tried the block off plate on my '90 3.1, and it didn't work well. No exhaust leaks, but the car didn't run as well and it affected my mileage negatively. But, get one off any late 80's or early 90's 3.8 such as Buick LeSabre or Olds Delta 88 FWD, or off a Gen II 2.8 or 3.1 Buick Regal etc. They all used the digital EGR and they interchange. I got one off of a 3.8 setting in the middle of the junkyard for 15$ and it worked great! Good luck!

i've got a 91 with a 3.1. my headers don't have any egr hook up so i just left it off...no problems. plug is just hangin there!
no engine light and i don't know that is affected performance but i did the headers at the same time as the new engine so, i don't know.
