MSD 6AL helps mileage how much?

anyone keep track of their mileage after installing the 6al w/ coil?

i've got one i'm pondering selling, but if it really helps mileage i'll hang onto it.

if you want one new in box cheaper than summit, make me an offer anyways.

I thought if you got pulleys, like say your alternator wont spin as fast as normal?

I don't have the 6al, but I do have the Accel 300+ with coil. It made a big difference for me. Increased my mpg by atleast 7 mpg from 18/22 to 25/30 city highway.

Of course I did some other little things in combination with that so my results are more skewed than what you guys would gain if you installed one in your thirdgen.

In my opininon, it was worth it to me. It took about a year for it to pay for itself in gas. Its not exactly a cheap mod, so some of you guys may want to save your money if 2-3 extra mpg isn't worth the extra cost.

Is the Accel 300+ an ignition box like the 6AL? I've been looking into the 6AL myself alot for the rev limiter and I've already got the MSD Blaster GM Coil.

Yes, the 300+ is an ignition box just like the 6al. The only reason I got it over the MSD unit is because of its size. It is almost half the size of the MSD unit. I have no space on my firewall, so size was a big issue for me.

I mounted mine just underneath my headlights - you can't even see it. I had just enough slack from the supplied wiring harness to do it too. And it was so easy to hook up too.

MSD 6AL isn't going to help you considering you already have solid state ignition. MSD 6A products are used as controls on older "point ignition" systems that get upgraded to solid state. On a Camaro you already have a 12 volt supply to your coil.

A MSD 6AL has the rev limit option which allows you to add a rev limit chip by pluging it in on the side.

Best thing to do is just get a MSD GM blaster coil or what ever company you like that bolts right in!

MSD 6A has a capacitor that charges giving the coil maxium input charge, blah blah so on. MSD 6A is a waste of money on a v6 Camaro, but might see a plus on a v8.

As for under drive pullies alternator death happens A LOT SOONER because at idle the alternator needs the stock RPM other wise it can't handle the loads and then it frys. Kind of like puting a 65 amp alternator in place of a 105.

There isn't any increase in MPG with a 6a on a Camaro.

My last alternator lasted 3 years whaich is avg for a alternator so i see no down side to them also you dont use the alternator pully its a waste. and it will not effect emissions in any way i have 220,000 miles on my car had it smogged 2 months ago and it passed with all below avg readings and for california smog that is really good
and the MSD i have on my car i noticed a top end difference when your doing 1500 rom your coil can handle the output but when you get into high rpm's espceialy if you have a stick thats wha the msd 6al will work at its peak my creating a more SOLID spark. I totlay disagree with what
Ryan_Alswede said no offence to you.

Alot of people on the boards have stero equiment and amps OR a lot of people have lower fan temp switches, if your just bone stock you can get by, didn't say you couldn't. Everybody has different experiences. By the way how many MILES did you drive in those three years, 60,000?

I think the word your looking here for is "duration" and YES thats what I ment by....

MSD 6A has a capacitor that charges giving the coil maxium input charge, blah blah so on.
Average person, Average v6 camaro, the increase of 1-2mpg comes from the coil upgrade not the box.
