Code 43 everytime I go thru water
Code 43 everytime I go thru water
This is a weird one, I change both the knock sensor and knock sensor wire last year with no problems, but when it rains hard and I go over a huge puddle I get a code 43. Is it possible the wire is just shorting out or can the knock sensor be defective. Also a mechanic worked on my car last summer and when the moron messed with my starter he pulled the wiring harness too close to the exhaust manifold causing a small fire, Most of the wires were shorted out but I fixed most of them .......I think. This summer I will change the harness.

It's probably the harness. When it gets wet, a drop of water might short it out against the manifold. Could very well be your problem.
Thanks
I am going to have fun changing the harness, I also lost the negative signal or ground to my fuel pump. I had to ground the wire coming from the fuel pump to make it run again.
Thanks again!

I see you have discovered, just like I did, that most shops employ idiots! I will never again have a shop install a starter for me. They overcharged me big time, and used a rebuild job instead of a remanufacture. Yeah, it seized, with very little warning, in a parking lot 8 miles from home. On Christmas Eve. Talk about an expensive tow. $10 per mile.
I'd expect that that wiring harness would be the culprit.... That really sucks man..that'll probably be a nice bit of a pain in the ***. Good luck on that.....

If I where you I would go to a junk and get the whole harness in that area OR go to GM and buy the splice in harness that they have. I bought the pig tail for the knock sensor when mine broke from being old.

I did the same thing for my dad's old '87 a-body. Knock sensor code kept coming up, but the knock sensor was giving off an okay value, so I replaced the knock sensor connector, thinking it was bad. (Turned out to be a bad ECM, though.) The connector is also spec'd for the a/c system and for your BRAKE warning light (on your brake's prop valve, right below the master cylinder) if you can't find a connector labeled "knock sensor" in the parts department.

Thanks, when I had the small fire it melted about 12 cables and I soldered most of them. The knock sensor cable was replaced. My guess is that one or more wires were toasted beyond repair so I'll just swap the whole harness from firewall to te front grill. Should be fun.
