89 RS misses while driving and idiling
Did a tune up: Cap, Rotor, Plugs and Wires and got a O2 Sensor, My uncle's 89 RS with a 2.8 and a 5 spd is missing like a pig, When we were driving, It kinda smelled like gas and you can feel the miss, It's been sitting for awhile and really hasn't been driven enough to get the kinks out, It's been sitting for about a year and I drove it about 5-10 miles within the last year. Thanks

the best i can tell u would be to check the compression. There could be a bad valve or even worst a bad piston ring. I had the same problem with my 84. Checked the compression and the #1 cylinder wasn't giving anything. Ending up being the piston ring.
A guage to check the compression does not cost all that much. U have to check all the cylinders. If all of compressions are pretty close ( around the same # ) u have no problems. But if one is significantly off, well u have a challenge ahead of u

Mine's doing this now - mine is because it's so damned hard to get those plug wires ALL the way on, and work on it, with all that frigging AIR and EGR crap in the way. Guess what's getting removed this week?

If it's been sitting around awhile it might be stale gas. Try to fill up with some fresh stuff and drive it a while. Check your plug wires in the dark to see if any of them are leaking, new ignition coil may be in order and a new ignition module.
As for the gas smell..... hmmmmmm look under the hood by the fuel lines.
Does your tach needle twich when driving a constant speed, I would replace the pick up coil, common problem is it gets weak and doesn't pick up when to fire a cylinder.
