Rocker

There is a pinging noise in my engine. My friend guarentees that its a loose rocker valve. He says all we have to do is take the valve cover off and tighten it. He also says that there is a possibility that we have to take the Fuel Injection off to access the Valve cover (we arent looking at it right now). Does any one know if we have to?

Also, the air cleaner assembly with the two square air filters is missing, and is there a possibility that I can put a cold air intake on it like on hondas (Except powerful ) and what is that wire that plugs into the side of the intake?

Thanks in advance for help

Yes you have to remove the fuelinjection plenum and injectors in order to remove the valve covers.

Do a search for "cold air intake" in the V6 forum -- many have designed their own intakes on here for cheap.

How?

Do you know the easiest way to take all that crap off and about how long it takes?

Thanks for your help...

well...taking it off is easy...if you've done it before...the first time i did it it took a while...but i recently replaced my valve covers and it only took 2 hours to do the total job...but the best thing to do is just sit there and look at everything and think it out as you go along...also get a haynes manual...its pretty good on taking that stuff out...good luck...

I did my valve cover gaskets without taking anything off. You just unbolt the valve cover and have to try tuning it in different directions to kind of coax it out of there. But it will come off without taking the plenum off, easy enough.

bes...i would seriously like to know how you did that...and i'm not being sarcastic...if you can explain to me how you got at all the bolts and stuff...you would be a savior to that job...i had tried that before and didn't get very far...but it was nice to regasket everything while it was off and change the o-rings for the fuel injectors...oh well...if you can explain that...it would be great...

I always take mine off without taking off anything else as well. You need a swivel, extension, and some patience. Yes I know I cant torque down the 2 back bolts to specs, but its much eaiser than taking off too much stuff to get the job done.

Not the problem

I got the car today, and the knocking is a wobbly pully that is smacking the engine. That and the squeeky belts TERRIBLE sounding!

Any ideas on tightening the pully? its one of the two bottom ones I think...

Which pulley is wobbling?

Alternator? Water pump? Power steering? Any of those wiill require replacing the component. Chances are the bearing in that component is shot -- which leads to wobbling.

That would be your MAT...I forget what it stands for..Manifold something Temperature. As long as it's plugged in and somewhere in the vicinity of the intake, it'll be fine. It just needs to know the temperature of the incoming air to calculate how dense it is so it can adjust the air:fuel ratios accordingly.

Unless you're referring to the MAF. But the MAF is a big lunky thing...the MAT is a single wire unit.

MAT

Where is the mat locatated on the V6 2.8, All I see is the MAF. And does anyone know that if I go to a junk yard and buy all the pullys that I need off a junk one if it would solve anything?

Thanks

We do, just look at where the maf is, and follow it up. Mine's up at the intake box, where the air filters are. You'll see it just sticking out there, with a wire running to it.
