the plug that goes into your filter can is the IAT Sensor. It tells the ECU the temperature of the incoming air. The other black cylinder that is inline with your intake tube is your MAF sensor. It tells the ECU the amount of air going into the engine so it can give it the correct amount of fuel to match the air. You should have both of them in your new intake setup just because the computer needs them. For the IAT sensor, just drill a hole in the tubing to stick it in, and for the MAF sensor, just make sure your tubing is the same size so you can keep that in there. See if you can get a hold of a TPI style intake on ebay or at a junkyard or something. i have it on my car, and from what I hear, it is probably one of the best intake systems you can get for our engines. They let enough air throught to feed a 350TPI motor, so why not ours. Good luck man...

Dude! 2.8 Boy, you've got the same setup car/year as I do. I just clicked a 17 flat by removing the cat... *hint, hint*

I went to the track a long *** time ago, before I figured out that I need a new O2 sensor. It made the car run a little rich and i ran a 16.9. Now that I decided that it would be a good idea for my car to pass smog, I replaced it. I'm getting better milage now, but the car won't be as fast I don't think. Plus, I didn't have all the stereo stuff in there. I took out everything that wasn't bolted down: Spare tire, Jack, etc...

Krazy, buy KED's setup, it'll be one of the best purchases you'll make for the money. It'll let you're engine breath easier, no matter what you do to it in the future, aqnd you can buy K&N filters to go with it. I'm yet to do this because they are like $25 each, and you need 2 of 'm, but once you have it, you won't have a problem.

no thanks im making my own setup, it will be fully installed this sat!!

i have a Y pvc right after that hose that goes to the throttle bottle then 2 four inch bilge fans then ran down to the front to cheap *** cones to start off with!

the fans operate on a full throttle switch which is placed under the gas pedal

so i have the sensor right next to the throttle body covered, i was just curious as to the others

how am i just suppose to drill a hole for a plug that snaps to its original placement!?!?!

His car is a 92 so he's running a speed density system. The smaller black cylinder sitting near the filter, with vacuum lines and crap going into it, is the charcoal canister. It's emissions equipment. The IAT functions like 2point8boy said...work it into the setup if you can, but a few degrees of a temperature variation is not going to make that big of a difference.

krazy..I assume you're talking about attaching the IAT sensor into your new setup, but it's stuck in the filter can. Get some liquid wrench, and..well...a metal wrench...and get the sucker out. It's not stuck, trust me. It screws in. (This is the sensor that looks similar to a spark plug or something...screws into the side of your filter canister). Then you can relocate it, however you'll most likely need to splice additional wire in to get enough free line to move it. Placing it near the intake location, or in an area where the temperature is approx. the same, will work just fine.

I doubt those bilge pumps are going to push enough to help any at WOT, but hell, I'd love to be proven wrong on this one! That'd be one big contribution to the intake category on these boards.

As for the 'sensor' at the throttle body..are you referring to the tube going from the passenger valvecover into the original flextube? That would be your PCV return line. Don't plug it! It'll build up pressure in your crankcase. Remove the entire tube...replace the grommit in the valvecover if you need to, and put a breather on it. Just gotta find the right size.

i got this sensor covered by using the original flextube right after the throttle body in my new intake setup , and i "can" yank that senor out of the intake!?!?! that help to know i can drill that in, in almost the same place.

so if i can fabricate it into my setup it would be good but if i cant i dont need it?

I reiterate that the PCV tube isn't actually a 'sensor'.. What happens is, on the driver's side of your car, the PCV valve circulates fresh air through the crankcase, where it's expelled out the passenger side valve cover...the air enters that PCV tube, and gets recirculated into your intake. So like I said..you can yank the tube out of the valvecover and put a breather on as long as you plug the intake hole obviously. So yes, it is removable.

About the IAT... Exactly.
