Need some 4th gen V6 info...

What rear gear generally came in 4th gens? Particularly one with disc brakes, and a 3.8 under hood....

'96 up all had 3.8L and '95's from Florida and California also had the engine.

Disc brakes I believe were available with both rear gear options, 3.23 and 3.42... Discs and Posi may have gone hand in hand... not sure.

Most 4th gens came with rear drums though...

While the prospect of finding a car with stock discs is probably slim to none... I'll tell you that there are choice vehicles out there... I was looking for a 5 speed V6 when I was car shopping... the first day out we stopped at this truck dealer in the dead of winter... my '97 was sitting out there with a $6295 sticker on the window... I talked them down to $6k, got a loan within a few weeks and drove it home...

96k on the clock, all mods in sig except for k&N and MAF screen removal... I've probably picked up 5 Hp since I bought it... probably 220 at the flywheel now. It books at about $8k so insurance coverage is awesome... I only have to pay an extra $180 a year for coverage compared to the '84.

I can burn those 275's all day whether its cold or warm outside...

I agree you'll probably find mostly 3:42 in the majority of the V-6 rides.
With a an over drive tranny and less torque than a V-8.....

I'll offer this from my 1995 Pontiac sales brochure

V-8......

Rear axle performance ratio, incudes 3:23 ratio, requires 245-50-ZR16 tires, available w/auto on.
On ALL V-8 models, this is optional, except on the Trans Am Convertible (std).

NO SPECIAL NOTES ON THE V-6 powered ride axle ratio (this year intro'd the 3.8 as the std. V-6, too)

PS NO disc brake rears offered on the 1995 V-6!
ONLY on the V-8 rides & that option wasn't.
IT WAS STANDARD

The v6 forum at http://www.camaroz28.com has a huge 4th gen v6 following; you could ask over there. I think 12secondv6 (James) has a 3.8 in his ride...

Yeah, he goes by that name on this board, LS1.com, CamaroV6.com... He is probably your best bet... I've done a lot less research on my 3.8 than I did on my 305.... I just know what I got and what I can put on it... there are no real 4th gen sites to my knowledge... LS1.com is the closest and that site really only encompasses '98 up V8's as expected.

Someone needs to find out for sure, but I believe that the 3.8 liter cars had 3.08 gears in the automatics. They sold a 3.8 liter performance package for a few years that was basically the Z28 exhaust system, and 3.42 gears. I don't think that you could get the 4 wheel disc brakes on a V6 car until they made them standard items sometime in the mid to late 90's.

Someone more knowledgeable than me might can clarify this.

3.8L 4th gen gears come in 3 flavors: 3.08(a4), 3.42(a4) and 3.23(m5). there are more standard 3.08's than the optional 3.42's in a4 cars. disc brakes came with the Y87 option and became standard in 98+ for the V6.

James is mostly in FirebirdV6.com/CamaroV6.com where he is a moderator but he goes to a lot of Fbody sites.

Has he got a V6 or V8?

Also, would the Y87 be a limited slip?
