Differences between the 2.8 and 3.1?

Hey guys .. i got a 2.8 in my bird and i was looking up some info for it and i came across some tech. info on the 2.8 and 3.1. I found that the bore is exactly the same but the crank is diffent (stroke) So this raises two questions .. Is the block exactly the same? And if i swapped out my injectors and my crank for those of a 3.1 would that pretty much stroke my motor into being a 3.1?

Thank you for your time

You woudl have to swap crank and pistons, even though bore is same. the place where the connecting rod hooks up to is diff place.

As for droping in 3.1l crank, would depend on what year 2.8l you have. Earlier 2.8l had smaller journels or something. Would have to have 88 and up 2.8l I belive.

The large journal crank happened in '85, BUT, all 87-up blocks have the center counterweight on the crank, which allowed DIS for FWD motors, and allowed the motor to be internally balanced. So, Dale's just 1 year off... 87-up will work.
