I talked to muffler shops and they say its possible, the space where the cat back pipe ataches to the catalyc converter is the only problem (at least they say) but can be modified for a 2.8 to accept a 305 cat back system.
The system in question was a Flowmaster Cat Back system for my 1989 F.bird.

I "had" a hooker setup on my Firebird. If i were you I wouldn't install a 305 cat-back because the pipe diameter is WAY too largre for the amount of hp you are pushing out of the 2.8.
Here's what I did:
I bought an aero-chamber muffler for fourth-gens from Hooker. It has a 2.5" in inlet. It cost all of 75.00. Took that, and some tips to my local muffler shop. There they installed the muffler with a custom 2.5" stainless steel madral bent setup. And VIOLA! It was done.
I hated the sound of flowmaster, and no one seemed to have a sound file of the dynomax setup. So I had heard a hooker setup on a V8 car and LOVED it!!! So I took the chance, and for me the sound was amazing. It is very very throaty, and has a great rumble. If you need to hear it I can email you the sound file.

Yeah, the 305 pipe wouldn't support scavenge on a 2.8.. not enough exhaust. (see previous reply to "2.8 exhaust questions")
