90 V8 Gauges
90 V8 Gauges
Is there any way i can make a guage cluster from a 90 camaro rs with a 305 tbi work in my 85 camaro with a 2.8. I know i will need a vss for the speedo but will the oil preassure guage and the tach work? I can get the whole dash with guages for 55 bucks so i wouldn't mind sticking in a little bit more money into it to get it all working.

The tachometer will be running "slow". It'll expect 8 pulses per rotation, and your v6 will only be sending it 6. My GM service manual seemed to say that there might be a jumper on the back of the tachometer for setting the # of cylinders, just like an aftermarket tach, BUT- (A) my manual is for a 1986 Firebird, and (B) nobody's ever seen such a jumper. Might've been a rare option.
Why not add on gauges?
A-pillar pod, dual gauges:

Summit 2 1/16 inch water temp / oil pressure gauge kit:

Totals up to $45.94... but then again, I prefer the "added-on-gauges" look.
By the way, that's the combination I have right now... except my Summit gauges are the "old" 90-degree sweep ones. Summit still sells that kit, for $15.99 (SUM-G2922), but for the extra 2 bux, the 270 degree sweep ones look much cooler.

you can buy a signal buffer from dakota digital, but to get that setup working doesnt seem worth the cash your gonna have to drop to get it rolling
Thanks for the input i kinda like the factory look so i didn't really want to add on extra gauges i think i'll get them tomorrow and look on the tach to see if there is a jumper somewhere. If i can't find one I'll try to trade the v8 ones for a v6 set from somebody doing a conversion or maybe i'll just keep them in case i ever want to put a v8 in the car.
