Ok on my 85 camaro if you stand in the front of it and look down on the lower passengers side of the engine theres a pulley thats attached to something. Since im new at this Camaro V6 thing i have no clue what it is. I seem to have seen a post or 2 bout smog pumps, is that it?? What would happen if i cut the belt off to it

I don't really know, but I heard it runs cleaner without it plus you shed some weight and free up HP. Get a 86 auto belt for it I think they had the same belt setups but I'm not sure.

No, it was easy, but some say its hard to get those 3 pipes off the exhaust manifold just 3 bolts to take off the pulley and two for the pump. Two years ago when I first joined this board as Executivecamaro I had those three pipes broken so it was cooking my wire harness it was the first time I ever worked on a car seemed easy to me

Yes but, my car isn't running since I got the intake in my garage (porting it) so I don't know how much power it free'd up but it's dead weight and stills power so is my AC that's going out soon

The point of the smog pump is so that when you decelarate, you get oxygen into the catalytic convertor so that it functions properly. As far as I know, it only came on manual transmissions because of the higher rpms that you make when you down shift to slow down. You need it if you have to pass smog, if you don't and don't care about putting out extra emissions, then by all means take it off, it'll reduce drag on the motor and give barly noticable extra power.

I live in MN so no emissions testing worries

Will removing it cause any problems?

But my smog pump had been disconnected from the start when I first got it and it passed smog ever since and I live in the worst place to have any emissions problems.

The pump is supposed to be there, and if the pump is actaully removed when they do the visual inspection, they are supposed to fail you for not having the proper smog equipment installed. You're car will run fine without it. You shouldn't see a code or anything for it, but your car will put out more NOX when you down shift. This is because the the engine spins faster, but the throttle plate is closed, so since the RPMs are higher, the computer will keep firing the injectors for the faster RPM. The smog pmp just adds extra air to the exhaust so that the catalytic converter can operate efficiently and without overheating.
