I'm guessing you did this, but it's my guesses...
1) Check voltage going to it?
2) Check all wires, cables, etc?
My friend had a similar problem, turned out to be a fuse or somethin' silly like that...but hey, I might not even be answering the right question here

Sorry about my poor English, the "text" means that the history miles recorded showed on the dash.

I am a Chinese in Taiwan.

Joe is your speedometer working at all? If not, the plug could have come undone at the transmission, so check that out (if you have the electric speedometer).

Good suggestion quick.

Also, to help better...

1. What year, and tranny?
2. Do the lights light up?
3. Does speedo needle work, but doesnt register miles?
4. All other guages work also, or no?

I belive were all willing to help ya, but since we speek different we have probs understanding each other. Let us know some of the above answers.

thanks a lot,
my speedometer work fine but the part I just mentioned, it is 1990 firebird v6 with auto tranny.

The all needles work, but it just doesn't record miles, what happen!! the people here don't know firebird well, so they want to take apart my donor car's speedometer to find out. (BTW, they put my donor car's speedometer on but still no improve, maybe they both broken or the problem is no on the speedometer! )

Pls help

Joe

Ok, so you and I are having similer problems.

1990 is an electronic given speedo, no cable. So something in the cluster(s) is bad.

Mine will jump several miles, works fine, stop working, works fine, jumps miles, etc.

I have not went any futher then cussing it out.

Hopefully someone will have an answer for both of us.

Dale, is it you or WWasem that has the '90-'92 GM Service Manual? Maybe it has a diagnostic chart for the speedometer?

Wow... I found a lot of people with 1990 f-bodies with odometer problems:

Here's an interesting message: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...er+not+working

I can't find anything useful. A few messages said to take the old one apart and look for broken pieces to make "one" odometer out of two broken ones. Did you try eBay or (at top of screen) Third Gen Resource or Hawks' Third gen parts ? Maybe they can be cheap on shipping?

Is the 88 an electronic speedo? Everything on mine works...except for the trip meter. The odometer reads fine, i just can't tell how long I've gone on a tank of gas unless i pay attention to the odometer everytime I fill up and then I have to do math...it makes my brain hurt.

88,

I'm not sure if its elec, or cable. But if your miles works fine, and trip doesnt. That means something inside is bad and needs rebuilt if possible, or replaced.
