87 2.8 Camaro making a tapping noise

I bought my buddys old camaro as a fixer upper. The car runs and drives, but when i come to a stop it cuts off. And while its running i hear a tapping noise coming from the drivers side cyclinder head. and when i speed up or rev the engine it gets louder. I was thinking that because my buddy was running premium he might have messed up the spark plugs so I am going to try to get the old gas out and put new spark plugs in. What does this sound like to you guys? It sounds pretty high up on the engine so I dont think its anything to major.

If you bought the car and are unsure of maintence, you need to do a full tune-up. Search on user "tomp", and key word "tune-up". Do what is typed in that post.

As for tap/noise, prob a loose rocker arm, or maybe as bad as a cam lobe worn down.

if ur (un)lucky enough for it to be a cam lobe, you might get the premium oppertunity to do a Hi-Po cam swap....but i'd be willing to stick with the loose rocker arm, it'd be much easier in one sense to do than the cam shaft, but w/ the cam = power But, i'd go the route of Tom's major tuneup first.
