2.8 V6 engine running bad

Have an 82 Pontiac Firebird 2.8L with 200c Transmission. I am having problems with the engine. The engine seems to lack power and when driving along sometimes if I slow down and then start to speed up the car starts to shudder during acceleration. The Idle speed adjust solenoid (beside carburetor that pushes the throttle) sometimes comes on and stays on. There is excessive oil leaking from the rear main seal. I have done a compression test on the engine and that is fine, checked the PCV system, replaced distributor, distributor cap, plug leads and plugs but didn't help much. I put in a new fuel pump before Christmas. I don't know what else to check for. Anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do next.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Gerry Holian

During the shuddering, what are your rpms at? Maybe the transmission isn't kicking down/downshifting properly? Wish I could offer more technical advice, but your car is way out of my expertise...I don't know carbs, and I don't know ANYTHING about the 200C tranny.

could be shaft seals in the carb.

82-85ish were not good years for the 2.8 over all.

Id pawn it off on the first "sucker"
with enough cash and buy an 86+

What's wrong with an 85 2.8? I thought 85-86 are identical.
