fuel pumps can be a bitch, easiest way to see if it's the pump is to turn the car on and listen to hear the pump prime, that's to the on position and not started....also don't try it after that cars been running for a while, cause it might not prime anyway, since the motors already hot. Also, did u add any gas right before the crap out? bad gas can give your car the same effect, tons of cranking, lots of spark, but no startin....hope it'd be the latter....fuel pumps require dropping the exhaust, rear axel, and then the tank to get to it....another way is to cut a hole in the rear of the car, remove the carpet, cut the hole, you can reach down and grabthe pump from there, replace it, and then put a panel over the hole (could get a round piece of metal and screw it down for future replacement, that's the easiest way to get to it...others on the board however have actually done it, and they'll fill you in on more info if you need it.

Spend teh $35 for a fuel pressure tester. A VERY WISE investment. Then do the pressure checks. Not only good for your car, but any others you mightget/friends cars & whatnot.

cant really miss it. It is by the rear drivers side wheel, but in front of it, not behind it.

Man, did that make any sense?

I agree 100% with Project '85- buy the fuel pressure gauge and diagnose the fuel pump the -real- way.

Then buy the Haynes 82-92 Firebird or 82-92 Camaro book ($15) for the procedure on dropping the gas tank.

I've similar problem with gas. I bought a chinese/taiwanese/korean, or etc. fuel presure tester for $9.70 (equivalent) and I did the test. Fuel presure was @ 40 PSI exactly, then I suspect a clogged fuel filter (VOLUME problem, no presure problem). I'll replace it and will check the new performance.
